As a pivotal partner within the health care delivery team, the Registered Nurse Clinical Coordinator ensures the delivery of quality patient care, both individually as well as through leadership and delegation to other team members. The Perioperative RN Clinical Coordinator understands and adheres to the standards and recommended practices of applicable professional organizations. She/he constantly guards, protects, and provides the patient with advocacy during all procedures. She/he acts as mentor/instructor and specialty resource. She/he is highly motivated, specialized, and professional in responding to all situations. The perioperative RN Clinical Coordinator provides leadership and oversight of processes, supplies, and staff related to a surgical specialty. The RN Education Coordinator facilitates, supports, and documents the ongoing education and competencies of nursing staff in the Surgical Services departments.

Performs duties and responsibilities within the scope of a Registered Professional Nurse as defined by the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act and Wyoming Medical Center policies and procedures.

Serves as liaison with other departments as they pertain to assigned areas and responsibilities.
Collaborates with other departments in the accomplishment of interdepartmental goals.
Participates in short and long term planning for assigned department. Participates in departmental goal setting.
Demonstrates understanding of departmental standards, policies and procedures, and communicates them consistently and effectively to personnel. Participates in the review and revision of policies and procedures.
Effectively monitors assigned areas for compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and standards (e.g. The Joint Commission, the Health Care Finance Administration (HCFA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), etc.).
Is accountable for cost-effective utilization of resources, including staffing, time management and supplies. Seeks opportunities to improve effective and fiscally responsible use of resources.
Oversees and approves education schedules to assure appropriate staffing and time utilization. Monitors overtime related to educational offerings, and cross-training.
Collaborates with Director and Assistant Manager and organizational education manager to assess learning needs, planning and provision of all educational needs of all staff disciplines within department.
Collaborates with Director and Assistant Manager and organizational education manager to measure and document individual employee performance against established performance criteria and standards.
Regularly consults with Director and Assistant Manager and organizational education manager to keep them informed of educational activities and needs .
Maintains full clinically capability to perform procedures within assigned areas.
Ensures overall accountability for department staff and education and competencies.
Coordinates preceptorship/mentoring of new staff in assigned areas. Acts as a resource and educator for the department.
Works with leadership to develop and achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Maintains Code of Ethics within practice.
Assures appropriate reporting of occurrences according to WMC Risk Management guidelines.
Consistently practices patient safety behaviors and oversees department staff and functions to ensure patient safety at all times.
As assigned by Director and Assistant Manager and organizational education manager, participates in preparation and delivery of performance evaluations for department staff.
Performs other duties as required or delegated.
