St Anthony is a designated Pathway Hospital. St Anthony Hospital's Emergency is a department ready for whatever comes through the doors.

Our state of the art Emergency Department is comprised of 18 private rooms and 2 trauma resuscitation beds with IV carts, bedside supply carts and computers in every room. Our outstanding staff provide compassionate, high quality care that is respectful and patient and family-centered. Our nurses utilize advanced technology and evidence-based guidelines in caring for our patients.

Our patient population includes all types of critically ill cases such as sepsis, MI, trauma caused by falls, COPD, CHF and renal failure to name a few. We have a Cath Lab on site and can take code STEMI patients 24/7.

Our Emergency Department follows the split flow model with direct bedding. We have a "quick look" RN and a Rapid Track out of 2 rooms during peak times.

CHI-Franciscan's Virtual ICU helps monitor our critically ill patients in the Emergency Department by providing a 2nd set of eyes by experienced ICU RNs who remotely follow those patients.

Our physicians and RNs practice a dual assessment model where both are present in a patient's room to assess and set a plan of care collaboratively. Our staff have a close working relationship with the local EMS and we function as a Level IV Trauma facility with an EMS Bay Station and work proactively on disaster drills.

Staffing:

The management structure of the Emergency Department consists of an experienced Clinical Manager, a RN-Clinical Coordinator and one Charge Nurse who oversee the department. The staff is comprised of RN's and Emergency Room Technicians with support services provided by an ED Pharmacist and Medication Reconciliation Technician 7 days a week. RN's are assigned by rooms and typically have a 1:4 RN to patient ratio with support from Emergency Room Technicians.

Job Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred

PreviousEmergency Department or Critical Care experience preferred, Newgraduates with completion of senior practicum in the EmergencyDepartment will also be considered for RN Residency positions

Current RN license from the Washington State Board of Nursing

Current Healthcare BLS and ACLS Certification required

National Institutes of Health Strokes Scale (NIHSS) certification within six months of date of hire

NeonatalResuscitation Provider (NRP), Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC) andeither Emergency Nurse Pediatric Certification (ENPC) OR PediatricAdvanced Life Support (PALS) required within 12 months of hire date

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and/or Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification is preferred

St. Anthony Hospital Medical Surgical departments have 32 beds per floor. Our 5th floor has 16 beds for Orthopedic/Surgical patients to care for them post-surgery. We opened this brand new unit on January 15, 2018! The most common surgical patients are joint replacements, general surgery, Divinci Robotic gynecological procedures and urology. An additional 16 beds on this floor support our general Medical/Surgical patients. All rooms are private with their own restrooms, supply cabinets as well as couches and privacy curtains for the comfort of family who wish to stay close. Computers are also located in each patient room as well as outside of every 2 patient rooms to facilitate bedside documentation and medication verification. We utilize Epic as our electronic health record. We support a culture of collaboration and team work to help each other grow. We collaborate with the surgeons to determine care plans for patients and our Nurses work with our Hospitalists to understand and support goals of care. Our Nurses foster a culture of team work where everyone pitches in to help out. They take pride in quality improvements and performing at the top of their licensure/profession. We have a strong unit based council made up of front line staff that works together to identify areas of improvement and implement change. The Charge Nurses provide additional clinical support for the staff and help to maintain the flow of the unit.
