Functions/Duties of Position

The Department of Diagnostic Imaging Services is committed to provide patients with the highest quality in patient care. We offer a wide spectrum of diagnostic and therapeutic services in an efficient, professional, and timely manner. The Diagnostic Imaging RN works as a member of an interdisciplinary team and uses the nursing process to guide his or her decision making in planning direct and indirect care to patients in all Imaging modalities. The RN provides moderate sedation for patients 13 years and older. Pre and post procedure care is provided to patients of all ages. Patient populations include: ambulatory patients, day patients, acute care patients, research patients, and patients at off-site locations. Pre and post procedure care is provided for patients in: Ultrasound, CT, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, General Radiology/Fluoroscopy, Mammography and PET/CT. Imaging departments are currently located at: OHSU Marquam campus, KPV, PPV, SJH, DCH, CHH, and off site clinics (currently Beaverton campus). The Diagnostic Imaging RN works to facilitate and coordinate the patients plan of care and appointments in some Imaging areas.Staffing needs are dynamic and may change during and/or between shifts based on procedural/exam load. The Diagnostic Imaging RN is expected to maintain a current knowledge base relevant to area of practice, and maintain a commitment to service excellence.

Job Requirements


  • External applicants: Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Degree from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)

  • Internal applicants: Associate's Degree in Nursing

  • Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License

  • BLS/ACLS must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network branch of AHA (upload documentation with online application)

  • BLS/ACLS must not expire during orientation or probation period, and must have the same expiration date (upload documentation with online application)

  • Current IV placement experience

  • Central venous catheter use and maintenance experience

  • Basic understanding of ECG rhythm and interpretation

  • Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English

  • Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information and tools

  • Minimum two years of Inpatient Medical Surgery experience

  • Minimum two years of experience with procedural sedation

  • Excellent IV skills

  • Ability to lift, bend, stoop, reach, carry, push, pull and walk throughout the work period

  • Able to lift 35 lbs independently

  • Complies with the safe patient mobilization policy when lifting or positioning dependent patients, including using mechanical lifts and coordinating the assistance of other personnel

  • Must be able to use all senses: seeing, hearing, touching, smelling, and speaking. Reasonable accommodations include corrective lenses and/or hearing aids

  • The work environment carries risk of exposure to human tissue/fluids and radiation

  • Must be able to deal with competing needs and priorities of internal and external customers, including making correct judgments regarding ensuring safe conditions for patients, families, and other personnel

  • Use of all hospital approved clinical equipment. Significant use of computers, copiers, multi-line phones, and fax

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation


  • Current OHSU employees: BSN preferred

  • One year Charge RN experience, current nursing experience in Day Stay procedural setting

  • ARIN certification (Association for Radiologic and Imaging Nursing)

  • Procedural sedation experience

  • Cardiac imaging procedure experience (medication administration and monitoring)

  • Diagnostic Imaging nursing experience

  • Oncology Nursing Experience

  • Nurse Coordinator experience


  • New Grads: N/A

  • Specialty Experience: 3 weeks

  • Experience, but not in specialty area: 4 weeks

  • Resource: 3-4 weeks
