Responsibilities

We currently have RN opportunities in our Progressive Care Unit, which is part of our Critical Care Division.

PROGRESSIVE CARE UNIT

The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a specialty unit that provides high acuity care to a wide variety of patients. Progressive Care is a level of care in between intensive and general care.

These patients require high intensity nursing care; frequent assessments and surveillance. The PCU provides continuous physiological bedside monitoring to all patients. Multiple service lines admit their patients to the PCU including: Surgery, Trauma, Medicine, Cardiology and Thoracic Surgery.

At Bridgeport Hospital PCU is a member of the Critical Care Division. The PCU offers nurses the ability to develop and practice critical care skills while still enjoying patient interaction and teaching. The wide variety of patient populations cared for in the PCU affords our clinicians the development of strong physical assessment skills, refined critical thinking abilities and highly reliable patient care practices.

Teamwork is paramount in the PCU. Interdisciplinary team members including Resident and Attending Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, Respiratory Therapists, Nurses, Social Workers, Physical Therapists and Care Coordinators all join together to provide the highest quality, safe and cost-effective patient care. All while working closely to mentor, support and encourage one another.
