General Summary of Position

Manages the radiation oncology nursing care rendered to our patients at MedStar Health. Ensures appropriate nursing staffing is provided, including numbers and appropriately trained and credentialed staff.

Maintains effective communication with clinical teams, internal and external physician partners and property management. Designated as the Clinical Leader for their specific region. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.Liaison to staff to ensure appropriate clinical care and workflow.Ensures appropriate infection control practices are in place including maintenance of prevention and control strategies for both patients and associations.

Serves as second Infection Control Specialist for MedStar RadAmerica. Ensures appropriate cleaning of scopes.Orders all medical and pharmacologic supplies for all MedStar RadAmerica sites.Ensures handling and timely reporting of all safety events ensuring communication has occurred in a timely manner and that all necessary parties are informed.Ensures proper and efficient opening and closing of clinic. Coordinates communication with patients concerning clinic delays or closures.Ensures respiratory hygiene stations are in place, properly maintained and stocked.

Ensures proper disposal of medication and biohazard waste.Maintains all equipment within nursing department. Schedules repair of malfunctioning equipment. Schedules annual equipment performance inspection.

Maintains emergency equipment checklist. Maintains emergency medication box, maintains automated external defibrillator (AED) including battery and pads. Maintains adequate supply of patient education and resource material.Ensures nursing coverage at all locations by coordinating staff scheduling and relocates nursing personnel to remote offices in accordance to patient needs and staffing requirements.Assists with compiling administrative reports, including benchmarking, hand hygiene and daily schedule and office throughput.Maintains liaison with other disciplines, such as social services, dietary support, speech therapy, physical therapy, pastoral care and pain management and ensures that their services are available to patients in an appropriate and timely fashion.Coordinates continuing education and professional development.Maintains inventory and dispensary logs.

Dispenses as ordered, medication samples and nutritional supplements. Stocks exam rooms. Orders and maintains inventory of linen and oxygen for the office.Organizes and participate in office daily huddle.Participates in multidisciplinary quality and service improvement teams as appropriate.

Participates in meetings, serves on committees and represents the department and hospital/facility in community outreach efforts as appropriate.Performs other duties as assigned.Provides direct patient care to Radiation oncology patients. Documents appropriately, in various EMR systems.

Accesses patient information from various IS systems.

Assesses patients for special needs and plans appropriate intervention, i.e., skin changes, dietary needs, social service needs, health care psychological and support needs. Provides pertinent information to all physicians.Serves as the liaison between Medstar Ambulatory Services and Medstar RadAmerica ensuring that all policies and procedures are aligned and implemented.In conjunction with leadership, coordinates clinical activities related to daily clinic operations at Radiation Oncology clinical practices.Oversees nursing credentialing and license/certification documentation in conjunction with nursing manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • Valid RN license in the State of Maryland, required and

  • Bachelor's degree required

Experience

  • 3-4 years Experience in oncology or clinical setting required and

Licenses and Certifications

  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure and/or Compact State Licensure in the State of Maryland. Upon Hire required and
  • CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation Upon Hire required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent leadership, planning and organizational skills.

  • Working knowledge of various computer software applications.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

This position has a hiring range of $87,318 - $149,094
