Job Summary and Qualifications

Under general supervision, and according to hospital policies and procedures, the RN Clinical Epidemiologist is responsible for determining, investigating, auditing, and compiling clinical outcomes and sources of infection or disease outbreaks. S/he describes the criteria and laboratory values that support the distribution of diseases and infections among patients. • You will be using audit tools, monitors staff compliance with precautions used for disease prevention. Program goals align with current Federal, State, and Local standards and regulations, which govern Los Robles Hospital and Medical Center.

• You will need to have a working knowledge of human anatomy, and is able to interpret clinical guidelines for infection classification as detailed by the National Health Safety Network (NHSN) division of the CDC. NHSN guidelines include criteria for infection related to each body system, procedure, or device used in hospital-based patient care, along with personnel blood and body fluid exposure management.

• You will assist with mortality review of sepsis patients, and collaborates with Sepsis Coordinator to maintain Sepsis database. Able to create graphics and present data at multidisciplinary meetings.

• You will create/maintain infection database, graphics and dashboards, for presentation at committees, and for regulatory compliance. This position is able to derive causality (i.e.-clinical source of infection) from the interpretation of clinical tests and treatment results and epidemiological analyses.

• You will participate in clinical rounding with physicians, and provides clinical infectious expertise in the interpretation of serology or microbiology reports and infections, as well as current criteria for infection. Provides clinical support to all departments, on an as-needed basis. Analyzes clinical issues related to patient care and reports to Director

What qualifications you will need:

• Registered Nurse in the state of California, with current licensure

• Master's in Public Health, Master's in Nursing, or another Health-related field is preferred

• Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) preferred, or willingness to become CIC certified within two years of employment.

• 2 - 5 years of related work experience: prefer Infection Prevention or Quality Management experience combined with clinical data analysis. May consider a combination of hospital work with patient safety/performance improvement/national patient safety goals.
