We're looking for someone to join our team as a RN, Clinical Educator who:

Utilizes adult educational principles and leadership skills. Strives to meet the comprehensive needs of the clinical staff and patients/significant others in a safe and caring professional manner.

Provides for the well-being of patients through patient advocacy, education and effective/collegial communication with physicians, other departments, clinical and non-clinical staff. Collaborates with Manager/Director for maintaining and improving clinical skills through professional development and services as a role model for other clinicians. Performs responsibilities within the guidelines of the Hospital Policies, state regulatory and accrediting requirements.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates orientation of new hires. Mentors and coaches unit preceptors to foster positive experiences and a supportive learning environment.

    Coordinates clinical and educational programs for staff, patients and community. Demonstrates knowledge of patient rights, bio-ethical standards and legal aspects of consents; serves as a patient advocate. Executes education and training in the clinical as well as classroom environment. Develops and uses various teaching methods to facilitate learning, i.e., lectures demonstrations, self-learning, role modeling, preceptor skills, bedside/clinical site evaluation.

  • Helps to maintain a centralized educational tracking system. Initiates individual action plan to achieve goals of professional growth and personal well-being.

    Submits summary of learning needs achieved from current years plan prior to evaluation. Serves as a consultant and resource for staff caring for patients as well as ancillary department staff. Maintains all necessary documentation and records in a legible, accurate and complete manner, including education and competency record keeping.

  • Monitors, coordinates and participates as necessary in the orientation program for all staff. Participates in general patient care service orientation program, as necessary.

    Meets regularly with the Manager of Education Services. Monitors effectiveness and appropriateness of current policies and procedures and makes recommendations to enhance those resources as indicated. Coordinates and/or participates in unit based in-services for new equipment, policies and procedures, new medications, etc.

  • Participates in performance improvement by planning and providing clinical education based on practice findings/data, direct observation, unit needs, and identified action plans. Assists with the evaluation of the program's effectiveness and attainment of goals. Participates in the evaluation of clinical issues and coordination of staff education/training.

  • Identifies educational and training needs of the staff through daily rounds, observing staff performing direct patient care, and discussing needs at unit, leadership, and professional practice meetings. Expands the scientifically based nursing practice by utilizing, facilitating and participating in nursing research. Disseminates recent innovations and research findings relevant to nursing practice and patient outcomes.

  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

You'll be successful with the following qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree (BSN): Preferred

Required Licenses/Certifications:

  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association: Preferred

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification: Preferred

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required

VIEW JOBS 10/16/2019 12:00:00 AM 2020-01-14T00:00 Function/Duties of Position The purpose of this position is to provide the services of a licensed pharmacist which includes the responsibility for the safe and proper distribution and use of medications in inpatients and outpatients who range in age from neonates, infants less than one year of age, children and adolescents ages 10-18, adults ages 19-65 and the elderly over age 65. This position is to function at higher decision making and accountability levels regarding medication therapy, proactively affecting medication use by making recommendations at the time prescribing decisions are being made or, in some cases, making independent decisions about medication therapy in cooperation with other healthcare team members. Additional services provided include facilitatation of medication reconciliation, discharge counseling, and medication delivery through coordination of care from admission to discharge. The pharmacist must possess strong communication skills for patient education and work collaboratively with inpatient and outpatient interdisciplinary teams including but not limited to providers, nurses, case workers, pharmacists, and technicians, as well as, the teaching and precepting component of students, interns and/or residents. This is a flexible model where the coordination during transitions of care and medication use system for patients are integrated with traditionally centralized functions, such as order entry/verifications and will continue to evolve as part of integrated decentralized patient care practice. Required Qualifications * BS in Pharmacy or Pharm.D. PLUS Practice Residency or Specialist Certification (BCPS, BCOPS, etc) * Licensure in the State of Oregon * ACLS/BLS/PALS Certification * Emergency Department Experience and familiarity with Code Blue Response * Demonstrates the ability to: * Enforce pharmaceutical care principles safely and accurately * Make age-related modification of drug therapy * Make disease-related modification of drug therapy * Evaluate medical literature * Work independently without minimal direct supervision * Handle multiple tasks and frequent interruptions * Communicate effectively both formally and informally, including presentations * Project manage * Work with a team professionally and collaboratively * Set priorities to respond quickly to emergent situations/requests * Work cooperatively with health-system and pharmacy staff * Communicate effectively and professionally (orally and in writing) * Perform work accurately with attention to detail * Exercise sound professional judgment * Perform systematic problem solving * Enforce practice guidelines, standards, and medication related policies * Make critical decisions * Perform key computer related skills including use of the EMR, common word processing, spreadsheet, medical literature and medication databases * The pharmacist will experience competing demands from nurses, physicians, pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals, as they attempt to influence clinical decision-making, clinical policies and practices and work flow * The pharmacist must deal with intense situations on a daily basis * Ability deal with frequent interruptions (work is often dictated by external factors) that may lead to mental fatigue or stress * Physical activities: standing, walking, stooping, reaching, talking and hearing * Visual: clarity of vision at 20 feet and 20 inches or less; adjustment of eye to bring object into sharp focus * Physical demands: ability to handle 1 – 5 pounds by hand frequently; telephone, pager, copier, fax, scanner, personal computer/terminal, common application software * Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation Preferred Qualifications * PGY-2 Specialty Residency * Vaccination certification      * Outpatient pharmacy clerical rotation, Transitions of Care, Discharge Medication Education, Surgical or Internal Medicine Services, Pain Management, and Medication Reconciliation * Specialist Certifications (BCPS, BCOPS, etc) * OHSU pharmacy competency and appropriate specialty competency specific to work areas * Clinical competencies relevant to pharmacy care at OHSU Additional Details #LI-DM2 AAEO Language Oregon Health & Science University values a diverse and culturally competent workforce.
