As a pivotal partner within the health care delivery team, the Registered Nurse will ensure the delivery of quality patient care, both individually as well as through leadership and delegation to other team members. The Perioperative RN understands and adheres to the standards and recommended practices of applicable professional organizations. She/he constantly guards, protects, and provides the patient with advocacy during all procedures. She/he acts as mentor/instructor and specialty resource. She/he is highly motivated, specialized, and professional in responding to all situations. The Perioperative RN Clinical Coordinator provides leadership and oversight of processes, supplies, and staff related to a surgical specialty.
Education and Experience.

Performs duties and responsibilities within the scope of a Registered Professional Nurse as defined by the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act and Wyoming Medical Center policies and procedures.

Serves as liaison with other departments as they pertain to assigned areas and responsibilities.
Collaborates with other departments in the accomplishment of interdepartmental goals.
Participates in short and long term planning for assigned department. Participates in departmental goal setting.
Demonstrates understanding of department standards, policies and procedures, and communicates them consistently and effectively to personnel. Participates in the review and revision of policies and procedures.
Effectively monitors assigned areas for compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements and standards (e.g. The Joint Commission, the Health Care Finance Administration (HCFA), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), etc.).
Is accountable for cost-effective utilization of resources, including staffing, time management and supplies. Seeks opportunities to improve effective and fiscally responsible use of resources.
Oversees and approves schedules to assure appropriate staffing and time utilization. Monitors overtime, time and attendance, and cross-training. Manages scheduling adjustments as needed to adapt to census levels.
Collaborates with Manager and assigned departmental educator to assess learning needs and to plan and provide for the educational needs of all staff disciplines within department.
Collaborates with Manager and departmental educator to measure and document individual employee performance against established performance criteria and standards.
Regularly consults with Manager and Director to keep them informed of activities, needs and supervisory problems.
Maintains full clinically capability to perform procedures within assigned areas.
Ensures overall accountability for department staff and operations.
Coordinates preceptorship/mentoring of new staff in assigned areas. Acts as a resource and educator for the department.
Works with leadership to develop and achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Maintains Code of Ethics within practice.
Assures appropriate reporting of occurrences according to WMC Risk Management guidelines.
Consistently practices patient safety behaviors and oversees department staff and functions to ensure patient safety at all times.
As assigned by Manager, participates in preparation and delivery of performance evaluations for department staff.
Performs other duties as required or delegated.
