Department Overview
CHH2 Outpatient Care Unit provides care for a variety of surgical observation patients who require monitoring after day surgery procedures for pain control, postop nausea and vomiting, surgical site monitoring or other indications. Patients on the OCU have met phase 1 recovery criteria in a post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) setting and are anticipated to discharge within 24-48 hours of arrival on the unit. Common procedures include: thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, gynecology and urology procedures, mastectomy, breast reduction and reconstruction, GI procedures, laminectomy, sinus surgery, simple fracture repair, orthopedic hardware removal, 1-3 level spinal fusions, total knee and hip joint replacement, dialysis graft repair and placement, laparoscopic procedures such as appendectomy and cholecystectomy and hernia repairs, ophthalmic and cochlear procedures.

Required Qualifications
External Applicants: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA)
Current OHSU employees: BSN preferred*
Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English
Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information and tools
Current unencumbered Oregon RN license by 1 week before start date
Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or the Military Training Network by start date
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodations.

Experienced Nurse: 2 years recent nursing experience on a med-surg floor with post-surgical patients
