Job Summary
The RN Cardiac Cath Lab role provides general and specialized direct and indirect patient care through the application of sound Nursing practice and procedure to patients of all ages; demonstrates competency in the behavioral, growth and development, and psychosocial needs of the population served. This position is committed to the philosophy of patients first. This role encounters Protected Health Information (PHI) as part of the regular responsibilities. This professional member of the Cardiac Cath Lab (CCL) staff provides care to adult cardiac patients. In this role, the nursing process is utilized during screening, circulating, and monitoring under the supervision of the manager. This individual participates in activities to achieve department, hospital, and professional objectives. Specifically, the RN functions in a peri-procedural role in providing nursing care to patients undergoing procedures in the Cardiac Cath Lab. These procedures include but are not limited to: left heart cardiac catheterizations without intervention, right heart catheterizations, permanent/temporary pacemaker insertion, ICD implantation, IVC filters, generator changes, peripheral angiography with or without intervention, and interventional radiology procedures. Starts peripheral IV's and as a member of the Vascular Access Team, insert mid and PICC lines. Pulls arterial sheaths and may assist in the emergency insertion of IABP and short term care of the patient. Additionally, this role includes working in Cardiac Rehab and Cardiac Services, as well as all other duties as assigned.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Completion of a recognized course of study from an accredited School of Nursing, BSN preferred
Must possess excellent customer service and communication skills
Critical care background preferred with experience in cardiovascular medications
Knowledge of Operating room technique, preferred
Ability to read cardiac monitors with knowledge of arrhythmia treatment
Must be self-motivated and a team player
Must complete CCL orientation
Must be an active member of the vascular access team (VAT)
Required Length and Type of Experience
Cardiac Cath Lab experience mandatory/required
Required Licensure or Certification
Must be currently licensed to practice in the State of Ohio
BLS certification required
ACLS required within the first 6 months
Required Physical and Environmental Demands
Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and hand-eye coordination. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds. Requires ability to lift and move supplies, patients, and carts. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions and irregular hours. Exposure to communicable diseases and/or body fluids. Needs to be able to hold hand pressure over arterial site for 20 minutes. Must be able to stand in OR type environment for several hours and work in a physically demanding atmosphere.
