Position Summary

This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center. The employee shall support Orange Coast Memorial Medical Center's strategic plan and participate in and advocate performance improvement/patient safety activities.

The RN reports to the manager of Radiology Therapeutic and the director of oncology services and is responsible for the coordination of the nursing functions and patient education function in the Radiology Therapeutic Department. The RN is expected to provide direct care to radiation oncology patients, provide patient education, participate in research activities, be familiar with and able to assess for chemotherapy and radiation side effects. The RN will function in an interdisciplinary team environment in accordance with established standard of nursing practice. The RN works closely with the department leadership to assure optimal patient care and quality services.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

  • Utilizes nursing process as the framework for management of patient care, evaluation of critical situations and problem solving, maintains integrity of the procedure requiring nursing care.

  • Provides nursing education to all patients/families, documents appropriately in Hospital medical record.

  • Understands and communicates information regarding all procedures and exams done in the radiation oncology department.

  • Participates in quality improvement initiatives and quality audits.

  • Demonstrates continued development of clinical expertise and current knowledge of healthcare trends and education related to nursing and radiation oncology practices.

  • Participates in activities to support the maintenance of OCMC's Magnet status and COC and NAPBC accreditations.

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. In addition to base pay, there may be additional compensation available for this role, including but not limited to, shift differentials, extra shift incentives, and bonus opportunities. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

  • 1-year acute care hospital experience or equivalent preferred

  • Experience as an interventional nurse in Imaging Services or equivalent preferred.

  • Experience as a nurse in Medical Oncology or Radiation Oncology preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing

  • Current California RN license required.

  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BCLS) card required.
