PURPOSE OF YOUR POSITION For Stepdown-Perform the functions of assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating patient care in accordance with established nursing standards. GENERAL INFORMATION Can effectively act as a liaison between patients and physicians. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work requires very frequent walking to various areas of the department. Must be able to stand, bend, lift and grab necessary items to maintain and perform procedures (51-80% of work time). Work requires very frequently lifting of materials and equipment up to 50 lbs and frequent maneuvering and positioning patients up to 250 lbs. May be required to work with heavier capacities with mechanical lifts, walkers, additional staff, etc (51-80% of work time). Work requires other activities including; pushing/pulling wheelchairs, climbing stairs and stepstools, stooping and kneeling (21-50% of work time) Work requires manual dexterity for purposes of utilizing necessary equipment and evaluating patients. Must be able to see and hear, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met. ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Generally good working conditions. Work may frequently involve unpleasant patient care related activities (51-80% of work time). Frequent potential exposure to infectious diseases (21-50% of work time). Subject to injury from confused, combative patients, families and visitors. May be required to work weekends and multiple shifts and/or able to work #available status# Universal Precautions apply. QUALIFICATIONS Satisfactory completion of an accredited school of nursing, current Pennsylvania license. BLS certification required. ACLS certification#and completion of basic rhythm course required within one year of hire date. Pennsylvania state police criminal record check, child abuse history clearance and a FBI criminal history check required. Work requires basic computer literacy skills and keyboard proficiency. Experience working with clinical documentation systems, hospital information systems, electronic health records, and scheduling systems preferred. Work requires basic skills in Microsoft Word. Work requires interpersonal skills to communicate with team members. Team collaboration is frequently required to provide the highest quality of care. A high level of social sensitivity when communicating with patients to gather patient histories, explain procedures and/or tests, and give instructions. Must be compassionate, professional, and empathetic when handling patient complaints and concerns while remaining focused on providing a positive patient experience (more than 80% of work time). Work requires analytical ability to assess patients and provide appropriate care. Must be able to integrate and interpret data from diverse sources to identify solutions. Must be able to accept and complete responsibilities without direct supervision (51-80% of work time). The navigator makes appropriate referrals for care and services needed by the patient. The goal of the Navigator is empowering patients through education and emotional support to navigate their journey independently over time and maximize safe and effective recovery processes. GENERAL INFORMATION You are delegated the authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties within your scope of practice and complying with hospital and nursing standards in performance of job duties and responsibilities. You will support the goals and objectives of the Orthopedic center. You must possess the ability to communicate effectively in situations requiring tact and diplomacy with staff, patients, families, and visitors.
