Department Summary:
We strive to be a unified team of expert clinicians, administrators, and support staff that provides our patients with exceptional, compassionate care through strong leadership, clear communication, focused education, and evidence-based practice.
We are the Gastrointestinal and General Surgery inpatient adult acute care unit for OHSU. We specialize in major abdominal and other complex surgeries. Our nurses have extensive knowledge in wound and fistula care/management, negative-pressure wound therapy, and ostomy care.
We collaborate with our surgical service teams, as well as a broad multidisciplinary group including: PT/OT, dietitians, wound care nurses, social workers, case managers, speech therapists, respiratory therapists, and pharmacists to deliver exceptional evidenced-based pre and post-operative care for our patients.
Patient Populations:
Red Surgery: Bariatric surgery's, esophagectomies, paraoesophageal hernia repairs.
Blue Surgery: Pancreatic and splenic conditions, hernia repairs, fundoplication, Whipple procedures, and Total Pancreatectomy with Islet Autotransplantion (TPIAT).
Green Surgery: Hernia repairs, colorectal, fistula management, new ostomy and ileostomy takedowns.
Gold Surgery: Fast track Whipple procedures, HDR Brachytherapy

$52.11- $86.81 per hour, based on RN Degree and level of experience.

Required Qualifications
Minimum requirements for all Nurses:
BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date
ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date
Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
BLS must not expire during orientation
Ability to perform the job duties with or without accommodation

Preferred Qualifications
Internal applicants: Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited program
CAPD
Transplant competencies
Communication skills including fluency in oral and written English
Basic computer skills including the ability to send/receive email, navigate information technology associated with the position, and use Electronic Health Record information and tools

Length of Orientation
Experienced Nurse (Fellowship or Specialty Fellowship) with more than 1 year of experience:
Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Learning Pathway or Orientation experience individualized to the candidate between 2-12 weeks.
