The Insurance Collections Supervisor is Responsible for leading and managing billing operations including timely claim filing, insurance claim follow-up, and insurance overpayments in a manner that is compliant with governmental and payer-specific billing requirements and regulations. Supervises insurance collections staff, assigns, and monitors productivity and performance. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing policies and procedures, as well as streamlining effective collection processes. This position is highly visible and requires a strong leader with the ability to prioritize, plan, and manage the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Regular and Reliable Attendance is an Essential Function of this Position.

  • Oversee and manage various aspects of the insurance billing and collections process from claim submission to collection activities.

  • Responsible for compliance and denial management. Proactively identify payer and/or system issues and work with both internal and external resources to resolve such issues.

  • Responsible for maintaining comprehensive knowledge of all contracted insurance plans and fee schedules including remaining current with fees and reimbursement changes as they relate to contractual agreements.

  • Creates a work environment for staff through team building, coaching, constructive feedback, work delegation, personal example, and goal setting that encourages creativity, open dialogue on work issues, professional growth, and a consistently high level of performance.

  • Hires, orients, supervises, and evaluates insurance collections staff; initiates and implements disciplinary action as needed

  • Maintains KPIs and analyses for opportunities for improvement. Meets with team weekly - at a minimum- to review progress and goals/results.

  • Effective communications with all stakeholders across the organization regarding performance, issues and/or updates for the department

  • Monitors unbilled account reports for outstanding services to reduce accounts receivable days

  • Establishes productivity and goals with staff; provides statistical and performance feedback regularly to each team member

  • Develops and conducts education/training sessions

  • Develops, creates, and disseminates reports to effectively manage and continuously improve the department

  • Aides in the on-boarding on new/existing acquisitions. Helps develop processes and workflows to ensure the onboarding is successful.

  • Maintains strictest confidentiality, adhering to all HIPAA guidelines

  • Maintains and supports evidence-based practices in the Billing/Collections Department. Ensure compliance with national standards and initiatives. Promotes individual and location accountability to the organization's Mission, Vision, Policies, and Procedures.

  • Performs other related duties and works on special projects as requested by senior management

Supervisory Responsibility

Supervises Senior Insurance Collections Specialists and Insurance Collections Specialists staff.

Education & Experience

  • College degree, or High School Diploma with equivalent work experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of healthcare experience including revenue cycle functions, insurance verification, coordination of benefits and authorizations, and/or dermatology knowledge

  • Leadership/supervisory experience required

  • Proficient in the use of ICD-10 and CPT codes, fee schedule reimbursement methodology, and regulatory requirements

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Must be able to meet deadlines and support others driving to metrics and goals Work Environment/Physical Demands

  • Prolonged sitting and working on a computer.

  • Available and flexible in scheduling and travel to meet the changing business requirements of the position
