What You Will Do:

You will be a member of the Risk Team supporting the 2nd line (Risk) model validation (MV) function which provides independent oversight to manage model risk in accordance with enterprise and actuarial model governance standards.

What Success Looks Like:

  • Perform 2nd line model validation review work and prepare MV reports

  • Assess soundness of model methodology and quality of 1st line testing for conformance with applicable model development standards

  • Challenge simplifications and limitations identified in the model

  • Evaluate adequacy and design of controls to mitigate operational risks in the modeling process

  • Prepare MV reports and present to MV Committee

  • Assist in review and implementation of MV Policy changes

  • Provide guidance to Model Integrity Team, model owners, and Actuarial Model Governance Team to enhance model validation and model change management process and reporting

  • Develop into a subject matter expert on MV principles throughout Transamerica and Aegon

  • Participate in risk committee discussions on model risk management and related topics

  • No direct reports although may direct actuarial students

What You Need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance, Economics or related field and 5 years of relevant experience.

  • At least 3 years of Actuarial Modeling experience, ideally on multiple roles (e.g. valuation, pricing, development)

  • Significant knowledge and hands on experience with respect to at least one of Life, Health or Accumulation products

  • ASA / FSA or equivalent professional designation.is a plus

  • Demonstrable knowledge of IFRS 9/17 regulations is desirable.

  • Demonstrates high quality judgment, organization and prioritization skills.

  • Effectively communicates, both verbally and in writing, mathematical and analytical concepts to varied audiences

  • Experience on AXIS, ALFA, or MoSes modeling platforms is a plus

Corporate Title: Fixed Income Risk Manager Department: Investment Risk Reporting Line: Senior Quant Location: Denver, CO Revised Date: February 2019 The Department The Investment Risk department is a front office (first line) risk management team that partners with portfolio managers to help deliver strong risk adjusted returns as well as provide a level of risk oversight. The team reports up into the Global Chief Investment Officer. The team uses an array of tools to calculate risk metrics which are automated as much as possible so that our team members spends more of their time understanding the risks in the portfolios which may not be captured by standard risk models. This includes ad hoc analyses and sometimes the development of analytics tools either used by the team or deployed to the portfolio manager for their own use. Overview of the Role The aim of the role is to help ensure fund risk profiles reflect client expectations and to support the portfolio managers in continuously improving the risk / return profile delivered to investors. This will include but not limited to: working closely with relevant portfolio managers, ownership of the identification of visible and hidden risks in the portfolios covered, ownership of escalation and resolution of issues when identified, drive forward the development of analytics and/or automation of existing analytics on the desk, tying together market trends/environment with portfolio performance and positioning, etc. You will also help portfolio managers analyze return attribution to quantify and understand drivers of performance. There is a requirement to raise concerns and highlight the levels/decomposition of risk to senior management, including the Head of Investment Risk and the Head of Fixed Income. The nature of the role demands a quantitative mindset, programming ability and good knowledge of derivatives. A strong understanding of fixed income portfolio risk and risk systems as well as their strengths and weaknesses will be a significant advantage. You will possess good communication/interpersonal skills, a good understanding of risk models and different investment processes combined with self-sufficiency and initiative. Area of Control Your core duties fall within the remit of the Investment Risk department, but you will be working closely with members of the Fixed Income department, which has coverage across the full range of fixed income asset classes, including government debt, secured assets, corporate debt and derivative instruments.
