The Risk Manager Intern reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

Partners with Risk Managers to assist in the administration of the risk management program on a day-to-day basis; identifying, analyzing, and collaborating on the management of actual or potential patient safety events, managing and analyzing risk management data, assisting in conducting risk management educational programs, performing risk assessments, and complying with risk management related standards required by The Joint Commission, CMS, and other relevant agencies with the objective of improving patient safety. Responsible for completion of professional development and learning assignments which provide a foundation of knowledge for Risk Management to support growth in the role.

Description

  • Partner with Risk Managers to complete tasks as assigned in support of NMHC's Risk Management program including identifying incidents, analyzing incidents, managing and analyzing risk management data, conducting risk management education programs, performing risk assessments, and supporting investigations including the Root Cause Analysis (RCA) process.

  • Complete professional development and learning assignments as directed by assigned Risk Manager mentor

  • Work closely with legal and quality/patient safety staff to assure alignment and advance shared goals

  • Develop strong working relationships with staff and management to enable reporting and thorough investigations

  • Develop a strong working knowledge of hospital operations to enable thorough investigations

  • Maintain confidentiality of all Risk work products

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in health-related field or licensure as a registered professional nurse pursuing a Bachelor's Degree


  • 2 years of clinical experience in an acute care environment


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Effective computer and data management skills

Preferred:

  • Risk management, quality, and/or patient safety experience in a health care environment

  • Advanced degree (JD, Masters in Health Law, MSN, MBA, etc.)

The Performance Excellence System Leader role is designed to coach and guide the implementation of the Performance Excellence System (PES) which is a Lean Six Sigma deployment into a WestRock facility. This role is the direct conduit between the tactical/operational and strategic initiatives in the organization.
