POSITION SUMMARY

The CMS Risk Management Division seeks an experienced administrative professional to work within the Risk Management Division. The Risk Management Division is a team of highly motivated and experienced claims experts that settle claims in a self-insured environment on behalf of the State of Illinois. The concept of teamwork is highly regarded within the Risk Management Division.

This position reports to the Division Manager for the Risk Management Division within The Bureau of Benefits (BoB) that is within the Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS). The Risk Management Division oversees all Workers' Compensation claims, Auto Liability claims and assists all State of Illinois agencies that elect to procure commercial insurance outside of the State of Illinois Self-Insurance Fund. The incumbent will serve as a support staff employee by handling and directing incoming phone calls, monitoring the Risk Management mailbox, handling smaller Auto Liability claims involving property damage not owned by the State of Illinois and issuing payments utilizing SAP system. They are also responsible for issuing all Certificates of Insurance when requested by members of legislature, elected officials, state agencies, board members and universities.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Under general direction, serves as the Risk Management Staff Assistant for the Manager of the Risk Management Division.

  • Performs a variety of duties in the flow and processing of information and documents relating to the Risk Management Division.

  • Performs a variety of activities requiring a thorough understanding of several programmatic and procedural areas adhering to the Risk Management Division's program rules and regulations as it relates to the Auto Liability program.

  • Drafts responses to routine correspondence and requests, proofs to ensure correctness of form, grammar, spelling, and punctuation prior to dissemination.

  • Monitors and maintains a small caseload of auto liability files for property damage claims.

  • Serves as Risk Management support staff.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in public or business administration.

  • Requires one year of professional experience in a public or private organization, or completion of an agency approved professional management training program.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prefers three (3) years of professional experience working daily with computer applications including, but not limited to mainframes systems, Adobe, and Microsoft Office products like Word, Access, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience with Risk Management programs such as Workers' Compensation and/or Auto Liability.

  • Prefers one (1) year of professional experience working within a Statewide Accounting Program or similar accounting programs.

  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience performing data analysis and reporting functions.

  • Prefers two (2) years of professional experience managing confidential information and/or matters.

  • Prefers three (3) years of professional experience coordinating the administrative activities of a business office.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.

  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.

  • Requires ability to attend seminars and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.

  • Requires the ability to use agency materials/equipment (i.e., mobile phone, laptop, etc.).
