Job Requirements

The Director of Risk Management is responsible for overseeing the facility risk program under the direction of the direction of the Chief Executive Officer. This position also assists in meeting the requirements of all regulatory agencies, including but not limited to JCAHO, CMS and state and federal agencies.

Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, or related behavioral health field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: Two (2) years' experience in quality management/improving organizational performance within an acute psychiatric treatment setting.

Licensure: Preference will be given to candidates with an RN license

Additional Requirements:
A basic knowledge of JCAHO, OBHL, ADHS, CMS, OSHA, and Patient Rights standards, and any other applicable federal and state laws and regulations governing mental health care facilities.

JOB SUMMARY PURPOSE Under general supervision of the Sr. Director of Safety, Claims & Enterprise Risk Management, the Risk Manager will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, direction and management of a comprehensive integrated risk management program to minimize asset liability and meet the needs of the Company's divisions and departments and contribute to the achievement of the Company's overall corporate objective and profitability. Provide leadership and direction to the Risk Management and Claims staff and ensure compliance with related corporate policies and procedures, safety legislation and industry practices. Manage the company's insurance policy portfolio and all insurance services and interactions to achieve effective risk management for all company divisions and departments KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate with or without a reasonable accommodation that the essential functions of the job can be performed. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 1. Minimum seven to ten years related experience required. 2. Minimum seven to ten years in claims adjusting. 3. Develop, monitor and maintain a Risk Management Plan related to the Company's insurance, claims and worker's compensation obligations. 2. Obtain proper insurance coverage for the Company by reviewing facilities and operations, working with consultants, and selecting best coverage. 3. Review and analyze claims data to provide monthly operational risk report to senior management and provide consultation and expertise on proper management of litigation costs, classify risks abased on frequency and severity, assess financial impact of risk on the Company. 4. Establish policies and procedures for investigating, handling, resolving and collecting, public liability claims handled by field claims personnel to ensure consistent and cost- effective results. 5. Monitor and ensure the reimbursement process of losses that occur to Company property by the public or insurance sector. 6. Analyze costs associated with public liability and tort lawsuits and reports to the Vice President of Compliance and Chief Risk Officer, the results for the purposes of implementing new programs to reduce future risk losses. 7. Maintain control of reserve accruals and other claims costs within budget parameters by regularly monitoring accruals and claims related expenses. Eliminates and/or minimizes needless and costly claims processes. 8. Ensure departmental claims workloads and commitments are met through effective utilization of employees and adherence to safety goals. 9. Meet with employees, supervisors, and managers on worker's compensation claims. 10. Assist Supply Chain Management with vendors, requests for proposals and agreements to identify real or potential risk management issues; recommend innovative solutions as appropriate. 11. Work with other sections (e.g., environmental, legal) on outstanding claims. 12. Where necessary, participate in claims settlement negotiations with Attorneys and other involved parties. 13. Update and review Policy Manual to include changes in policies and procedures as it relates to worker's compensation and claims as necessary. Counsels managers and supervisors in the interpretation and proper application of Company policies and procedures as it relates to insurance and claim matters. 14. Assist in the development and selection of appropriate risk management methodologies and implement programs and policies to minimize loss. 15. Coach, train and mentor direct reports and manage productivity of staff members to ensure proper goals, training, professional development and project requirements are met. Manage risk management and claims staff including but not limited to, periodic performance reviews. 16. Compile insurance data, performs cost analysis, and present solutions to resolve high value claims to upper management. 17. Occasional business related overnight travel may be required. 18. Professional appearance and business attire required. 19. Responsible for ensuring the enforcement of and compliance with all applicable Company policies, procedures and code of ethics as well as all applicable governmental laws and regulations to include employment, safety and environmental standards and regulations.
