Berkley One, a wholly owned subsidiary of W. R. Berkley Corporation, is hiring for the position of Personal Lines Risk Management Consultant. This position will primarily serve our Texas customers and reports to the Vice President of Risk Management.

This role will be dedicated to helping our high net worth clientele reduce their exposure to loss. By working collaboratively with our agency partners and internal stakeholders, the Risk Management Consultant will develop customized loss prevention strategies for our clients and help ensure their assets are covered by the most appropriate levels of insurance.

The ideal candidate will have Personal Lines risk management experience in the high net worth space.

What you will do

  • Perform detailed surveys of client properties for the purpose of identifying underwriting concerns, potential hazards and most likely causes of loss, developing risk mitigation strategies, facilitating solutions to these concerns, determining appropriate levels of insurance to value and when appropriate, identify account rounding opportunities for our agency partners

  • While relying on past experience and knowledge, demonstrate expertise in managing exposures cause by water damage, homes under construction, personal safety and security, natural disasters and other perils typical to the territory and clientele

  • Clearly communicate to clients, agency partners and internal stakeholders one's findings and determinations and work to develop a plan to mitigate risk in a manner consistent with Berkley One's philosophy

  • Perform other duties intended to develop relationships with agency partners. Support Berkley One's growth in assigned territory by articulating our value proposition and services compared to the competition

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in personal insurance risk management, loss control, construction, residential or commercial appraising, underwriting, property claims or a related field position

  • Ability to identify potential causes of loss and develop appropriate recommendations

  • Ability to recognize various construction practices and understand building costs and associated issues

  • Strong insurance and business acumen as well as experience in the high net worth marketplace

  • This professional position requires scheduling flexibility and occasional extended hours in order to meet the needs of the customer. Periodic overnight travel and evening or weekend appointments may be required

  • Advanced proficiency with the Microsoft suite of products and prior experience using e2value or other valuation software

This is an excellent career opportunity to work with an expert consulting team on challenging safety and risk projects for large global clients. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Review and provide technical guidance regarding risk and safety studies including process safety reviews, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA), Gas and Smoke Dispersion Modeling, Safety Integrity Level (SIL) studies and offsite consequence analysis; * Review and interpret raw data analysis to provide risk management advice and recommend changes to design, processes for onshore oil & gas process plants and offshore oil & gas production facilities to reduce risk of personnel exposure to chemical, physical and biological work hazard; * Provide technical expertise for the inspection of facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards by participating in and leading risk identification and assessment workshops including Bow-tie analysis, Hazard Identification (HAZID) studies and Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies; * Develop HSE cases for drilling rigs including drillships, Semi-submersibles and Jackups for operations in unregulated and regulated areas including Gulf of Mexico, offshore Australia, North Sea, offshore Brazil etc. and review a range of safety studies to support the HSE Case including, Hazard Identification (HAZID) and hazard register development, compartmental hazard analysis, Failure Mode Effects & Critically Analysis (FMECA), MAE bow-tie analysis, As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) studies and statement of operational boundaries (SOOB) workshops; * Review technical risk assessment studies such as gas dispersion analysis, drop object study, non-flammable hazard analysis, pipeline risk analysis, and subsea isolation valve studies; * Lead reviews to determine whether all safety requirements have been met in compliance with work with safety regulations and standards such as OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM) (29 CFR 1910.119), and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards for onshore oil & gas process plants and offshore oil & gas production facilities by reviewing plans and specifications for construction of new machinery or equipment; * Provide technical supervision for Phase I Environmental Site Assessments for downstream facilities in accordance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations; * Develop Performance Standards for Safety Critical Elements (SCE) to support HSE Case submissions; * Prepare reports regarding findings from facilities inspections and environmental testing projects to provide to clients; * Lead risk analysis studies such as fire and explosion analysis, gas and smoke dispersion modeling using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) (FLACS) and consequence analysis softwares (DNV Phast); and * Perform detailed quantitative risk assessments using various software such as DNV Phast, FLACS to calculate individual risk, societal risk, predict economic losses and environmental impact and suggest improvement measures to reduce the risk. REQUIREMENTS: * Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Environmental Engineering/Science, Environmental Management, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field. * 3 years of experience as an Environmental Consultant, Risk & Safety Consultant, or a related occupation. * Experience gathering data and setting up analysis parameters for safety studies such as process safety reviews, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Studies; * Experience conducting quantitative risk assessment studies such as gas dispersion analysis, non-flammable hazard analysis, pipeline risk analysis, and subsea isolation valve study; * Experience conducting fire and explosion modeling using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) (FLACS) and consequence analysis softwares (DNV Phast); * Experience providing recommendations for improvements and changes to processes to reduce risk of employees' exposure to chemical, physical and biological work hazard; * Experience performing risk assessment studies such as dropped object study, gas and smoke dispersion modeling, safety critical element/systems analysis, cost benefit analysis; * Experience working with safety regulations and standards such as OSHA's Process Safety Management (PSM) (29 CFR 1910.119), and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standards; and Experience preparing risk assessment reports and environmental impact assessment reports. * ~10% travel to unanticipated client locations locally/regionally/internationally is required.
