Risk Coordinator RN will facilitate peer review activities for nursing and clinical departments and oversee the management of the timely review, investigation, action plan, and closing of risk management events. They will actively participate in outstanding customer service and accept responsibility for maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. They are also responsible for providing clinical expertise and ensuring evidence based practice.

Authorized to review and investigate on behalf of the risk management and compliance management programs. Abides by strict confidentiality related to findings and actions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Oversee nursing and clinical department peer review

  • Initial review of risk, investigation, and final closing of events.

  • Just in time Education of Staff if variance is identified.

  • Tracers (rounding for compliance with regulatory requirements.)

  • Patient rounds and unit rounds

  • Proactive Risk Assessments and Comprehensive Analysis including RCA

  • Applying HRO principles in activities

  • Prepare meetings, agendas, packets, minutes, and scheduling

  • Abstracts data from medical records for Risk & quality measures and other projects assigned to the Quality Management Department; this includes concurrent and retrospective chart review.

  • Performs data entry in appropriate databases.

  • Organizes and facilitates multidisciplinary workgroups for each quality measure to improve outcomes.

  • Verification that appropriate documentation has been completed on current charting (includes communication with medical staff / hospital staff).

  • Maintains a presence that portrays professionalism and confidence to the customers served.

  • Assist in the hospital certification and accreditation process

  • Abides by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).

  • Assist in accreditation or other regulatory surveys

  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of clinical process and medical documentation used in healthcare.

  • Proficient in the use of Google Docs/Sheets and or Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

  • Possess the ability to multi-task and initiate critical thinking skills when performing duties.

  • Proficient in Google Slides and /or Powerpoint

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance/accreditation standards (i.e. CMS; The Joint Commission).

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Registered Nursing or

  • Bachelors Degree

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelors or Masters in related field

  • Five years of clinical experience

REQUIRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Currently licensed and in good standing in the State of Kansas or Compact License State as a Registered Nurse.

PREFERRED LICENSE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION

  • Certification as Healthcare Quality Professional (CPHQ) or Healthcare Accreditation Certified Professional (HACP), or other Patient Safety or Risk Management approved Certification
