The Risk & Portfolio Management Analyst to Senior Analyst performs investment research, analysis and portfolio management responsibilities related to Risk Management, Portfolio Management and Treasury activities with an expectation to work in different areas of the group through time.

Work may involve, with supervision, day-to-day management of internal portfolios, performing analytical research to ensure the Trust is in compliance with policy and risk guidelines, and/or supporting Trust rebalancing and financing activities. In addition, work activity may involve quantitative analysis, performing fundamental and statistical research and analysis, and developing solutions in Python/SQL or similar programming language in support of quantitative investment portfolios. This position will report to the Chief Risk Officer or a Director within Risk and Portfolio Management.

Compensation: The TRS Investment Management Division offers an attractive compensation package consisting of base salary, annual performance incentive bonus, a defined-benefit pension plan as well as 401(k) and 457 retirement plans, and comprehensive benefits. Depending upon the qualifications of the individual selected and the discretion of the hiring manager the position will be filled at one of two levels (Analyst or Senior Analyst). Starting salary is commensurate with experience.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Financial Modeling, Risk and Portfolio Management

  • Develop and maintain, or assists with, portfolio construction tools to support internal portfolio management

  • Develops data management and return attribution tools for various portfolios including , but not limited to, US Treasuries and rates futures.

  • Prepare reports to ensure internal process are working as intended

  • Assist in management of repurchase program to support Trust financing needs.

  • Assists with developing or improving, or develops new or improves existing trade ideas and strategies

  • Assists with developing or develops market views for the management of portfolios (multi-asset classes).

  • Analyze Trust positioning to improve risk profile of Trust

  • Work closely with colleagues in the day-to-day management of portfolios

  • Generates daily/weekly reporting to communicate efficient management and perform quality control of areas of responsibility.

  • Expect to support different elements listed above through time with an emphasis in different areas as you progress with the organization.

Research and Analysis

  • Performs or assists with performing fundamental and statistical investment analysis including basic investment computations (i.e., return multiples, correlations, volatility analysis, attribution analysis, etc).

  • Assists with developing or develops views on direction of macro environment (i.e. Federal Reserve policy, yield curve, and cash markets) by consolidating both external research in conjunction with independent analysis and can identify key data points to communicate.

  • Communicates analysis of investment opportunities, results, and recommendations with the relevant portfolio managers(s) and/or senior staff via verbal and written reports and presentations, including preparing qualitative and quantitative reports, memoranda, and spreadsheets.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING

Minimum Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in finance, economics, mathematics, computer science, or a closely related field.
  • A Master's degree in business, finance, economics, mathematics, or a closely related field may substitute for one (1) year of the required investment experience.

Experience:

  • Zero (0) to One (1) year of full-time professional investments experience or other experience involving a high degree of skill in data analysis and evaluation, such as financial analysis, engineering, or statistics.

Registration, Certification, or Licensure:

  • None required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in the areas of valuation, in the area of fixed income portfolio trading and management.

  • Full-time professional investments experience or other experience involving a high degree of skill in data analysis and evaluation, such as financial analysis, engineering, or statistics.

  • Experience in statistical modeling, data science, or related quantitative analysis.

  • Experience in publishing written reports reviewing markets.

  • Demonstrated investment knowledge such as investment management experience, an MBA, or certification (or working toward): Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA), Financial Risk Manager (FRM).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

  • Investment concepts, terminology, styles, models, strategies, and fundamental investment factors.

  • Derivatives including futures, swaps and options

  • Statistical concepts, methods, and models and their application to investments.

  • Python or related programming language and quantitative data analysis libraries such as Pandas, NumPy, etc.

  • Knowledge of a database query language such as SQL is preferred.

Skill in:

  • Verbal and written communication of complex information that is accurate, timely, and based on sound judgment, and making presentations to groups with varied levels of investment knowledge.

  • Managing projects and developing investment strategies.

Ability to:

  • Question the validity and accuracy of data and assumptions.

  • Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, agency staff, and external contacts.

  • Apply concepts, learning and common sense to novel situations

  • Think independently

  • Execute on projects with some degree of independence

  • Work effectively in a professional team environment.
