Wedbush Securities is a full-service investment bank and brokerage firm headquartered in the financial district of downtown Los Angeles. Our regulatory accounting department is seeking an experienced professional who is committed to obtaining a deep knowledge of the regulatory accounting rules. This is a very important role in our accounting and finance department that will report to the Regulatory Accounting Manager.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Perform general accounting duties for the broker dealer including reconciliations, journal entries, allocations, etc.

  • Prepare regulatory filings (FOCUS, Customer Reserve and Net Capital, etc.)

  • Work with internal and external financial and regulatory auditors

  • Interact and work with various departments within the firm to reconcile differences and calculate pieces critical to the financial statements and regulatory reports

Experience and Skills

  • BA/BS; Business/Econ with emphasis in accounting/finance preferred

  • 2-3 years of corporate accounting experience required

  • Experience with financial reporting preferred

  • Some regulatory reporting experience preferred

  • Financial or securities industry experience preferred

  • Highly meticulous, detail oriented and accurate

  • Ability to analyze processes and improve efficiency of procedures

  • Strong analytical and accounting skills and knowledge

  • Highly proficient in MS Excel and Word; agile at learning new PC and server-based software applications

Job Summary / Major Responsibilities: * Analyze the credit risk of a designated portfolio within the Financial Institutions Group ("FIG") industry vertical. * Utilize available research tools (rating agency reports, Bloomberg, seminars, etc.) to assist in credit analysis and maintain current knowledge of industry issues. * Make accurate and timely rating and exposure recommendations to senior members of the team. * Complete annual reviews, notices of risk rating changes, and administrative actions as needed. * Initiate and ensure completion of all required internal documentation on a timely basis in conformance with Bank policy and procedures. * Coordinate with front office, corporate lenders and Treasury to ensure adequate limits are available to support the Bank's business and liquidity needs. * Complete Probability of Default (PD) and Loss Given Default (LGD) risk ratings within prescribed timeframe. * Escalate as appropriate key developments affecting the credit quality of assigned counterparties and the industry at large. * Prepare reports and otherwise assist senior management in the review of portfolio and credit trends. * Assist with revision of credit policy and other projects. * Participate in the policy development in committees, project teams, or transaction discussions with Senior Credit Officers. * Ensure compliance with policy and regulatory requirements. * Bachelor's degree in a related field; advanced degree in a related field is preferable. * 3 years of working experience in credit and risk related function. * Effective listening, verbal, and written communication skills. * Demonstrated ability to analyze, negotiate and manage corporate credit transactions. * Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure. * Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Access and Excel.
