The Risk Analyst is primarily responsible for supporting the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) in the continuous development of risk management practices at Foresters Financial (North American Asset Management Division [NAAM]). The incumbent will ensure they are commensurate with the risk profile of the business, in line with regulatory expectations, and meet best practices in the asset management industry. The Risk Analyst will also help contribute to the development of risk management best practices across NAAM.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Risk assessment and monitoring
Assist in maintaining the Risk Management Policy (the Policy) to ensure it remains appropriate and making recommendations for change as necessary.
Assist with the introduction, implementation and maintenance of controls to ensure compliance with the Policy and escalate identified areas of non-compliance to the CRO as appropriate, with proposals for remediation.
Analyze departmental risk registers to ensure that risks are properly assessed in accordance with established risk policies and procedures.
Work with risk colleagues across the enterprise to develop common standards of best practice.
Assist in the development and analysis of risk and performance indicators to identify risk trends that may require prompt action/mitigation plans.
Develop and provide risk reporting as is deemed necessary.
Assist the CRO in the preparation of the quarterly risk report to the Board of Directors.
Assist in the development and delivery of risk training.
Encourage documentation of risk management activities.
EXPERIENCE AND BACKGROUND REQUIREMENTS:
3-5 years of risk experience in the financial services industry is preferred.
Knowledge of current best practices and regulatory requirements in risk management and processes in the asset management industry.
Proficiency in Excel.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships across functional areas.
Strong organizational, analytical and planning abilities.
Strong time management skills and ability to multi-task and respond to evolving organizational needs.
Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation and report writing).
Good judgment and decision making skills to act effectively in resolving issues which arise.
