Family Services Specialists assist families in achieving self-sufficiency; determine eligibility for a variety of public assistance and health related programs; and/or provide coordinated employment and training services including assessment, vocational guidance, support services, and education to clients; and/or provide child support enforcement services.
Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. This position is located in Pahrump, Nevada.
This hiring list will be used to fill current and future vacancies as they occur in thePAHRUMP DISTRICT OFFICE ONLY. Family Services Specialists interview applications and recipients of public assistance; explaineligibility; and elicit information todetermine which public assistance programs are applicable; assist clients in completing required applications and research andverify information provided by clients by contacting landlords, employers, utility companies and personal creditors in order to confirmcitizenship, residency, household composition, current and previous earnings, and projected household expenses; evaluate andprocess information to establish eligibility; compute income and evaluate other factors impacting the level of benefits; and makedeterminations according to required time frames and program regulations, policies and procedures.
Under close supervision, positions in this series may specialize in one service area, or may work in multiple areas as a generalist,depending upon the needs of the agency. This is the entry level in the series which provides for progression to the journey level uponsatisfactory completion of the required training period, successfully meeting minimum qualifications, and with the recommendation ofthe appointing authority.Some positions require the incumbent to fluently read, write and speak SPANISH and ENGLISH.

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school or equivalent education and two years of experience in a clerical/administrative/program support role which included customer relations; obtaining, verifying and evaluating information; organizing and prioritizing work in order to meet timelines and standards; applying and explaining program rules, regulations, policies and procedures; and performing mathematical computations; OR two years as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service; OR sixty semester credits from an accredited college or university in general studies; business administration, social science or human services and one year of experience as described above; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Notes In accordance with NRS 293.5045, a voter registration agency shall not knowingly employ a person whose duties will include the registration of voters if they have been convicted of a felony involving theft or fraud.
Most positions in this series fall under this NRS. For most positions in this series, applicants must meet the minimum typing speed established by the agency at the time of recruitment. Special Requirements Candidates must submit to background checks and fingerprinting upon appointment.
Additional Position Experience A typing certificate issued within the last twelve (12) months MUST accompany your application and verify your net typing speed of at least 35 wpm in a five minute test.
