Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Transportation's (VDOT) is excited to offer and announce a competitive opportunity to serve as a part-time Right of Way Specialist for the Right of Way Division. The position will be located in Fredericksburg, Virginia at the Fredericksburg District Office.
This challenging and rewarding position's specific responsibilities and duties will include, but are not limited to:
Perform Technical Reviews
Technical Assistance
Provide Technical Direction and Assistance
Maintain and update various databases utilized by the Right of Way Division of VDOT.
Assist with problem solving and resolving issues.
The position you are applying for is an Hourly/Wage position. Hourly (wage) employees may not work more than an average of 29 hours a week and cannot exceed 1500 hours during their employment year. This position does not include health insurance, retirement or leave.
Minimum Qualifications
Skill in the use of computers and web-based applications.
Ability to work independently and complete routine work assignments with an attention to detail.
Skill in interpersonal communication with competencies in persuasion and conflict.
Knowledge of project management techniques and tools.
Ability to provide direction and technical assistance to diverse customers.
Ability to conduct legal research.
Ability to read plans.
Ability to make independent decisions based on analysis of available information.
Additional Considerations
Experience in a work environment where legal documents are routinely generated.
Knowledge of project development related to highway construction and improvements.
Knowledge of Federal and State laws related to land acquisition.
Knowledge of real estate practices.

VDOT is an emergency operation agency. As such, this job is essential to emergency response operations and expected to work in these situations, to include weekends, holidays, and after normal business hours; assignments may vary based on business needs to include working in severe weather.
This position requires a fingerprint based Criminal History Background Check, DMV Record Check and Work History Verification with references.
