Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Multi-discipline Engineer to work in our Electrical Controls and structural Engineering department. Our team works a 4x10 schedule located out of our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off.

INL is recognized as the lead national laboratory for DOE-NE, providing much of the nuclear research, development, and demonstration capability needed to move nuclear innovation forward to deployment. MFC hosts a unique combination of personnel, facilities and infrastructure and offers the ability to perform research and development of nuclear fuels from fuel design and fabrication through post irradiation analysis.

Responsibilities Include:

Apply engineering principles for the planning, design, and construction and maintenance of cranes, hoists, rigging, transportation, and mechanical material handling. Provide the analysis for systems, structures, and components in the support of Category 1, 2, and 3 Nuclear facilities and Radiological Facilities. Direct or participate in planning, designing, or reviewing plans for maintenance and operation of lifting equipment in support of nuclear facilities.

  • Provide engineering support for existing and new rigging and hoisting equipment at the Materials and Fuels Complex.

  • Provide design support and guidance to develop preventative maintenance procedures for existing nuclear support lifting equipment.

  • Develop material rigging and handling plans to include engineering design, lifting plan, rigging sketches. Issue formal work package.

  • Confirm compliance with applicable codes and standards. Develop acceptance criteria, inspection plans, and test plans.

  • Develop and issue installation and testing instructions.

  • Develop relevant documentation including engineering design files (EDF), technical and functional design requirements (TFR), and system design descriptions (SDD), engineering calculation and analysis reports (ECAR).

  • May inspect existing projects and recommend repair and replacement of defective members or rebuilding of entire structure. This may include application of engineering principles to monitor and evaluate condition and operational performance of plant systems related to Civil/Structural engineering.

  • Support nuclear cask design and maintenance activities.

  • Provide sound "in the field" guidance on emergent civil/structural/mechanical engineering issues.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil, structural, or mechanical engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

  • Relevant experience determined by level which may include a background in designing, leading, or overseeing structural engineering work with extensive field experience and construction expertise; structural steel and concrete work; and structural analysis and developing structural designs.

  • Level 1 will have bachelor's degree.

  • Level 2 will have bachelor's and 2 years of experience. Master's and 0 years of experience. PhD and 0 years of experience.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.

Job Information:

  • The pay range for this position is: Level 1 ($63,528 - $130,284) / Level 2 ($75,804 - $155,496). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
