  • Valid Driver's License is required. CDL License is preferred but not required.

  • General labor experience preferred; commercial construction experience is a plus.

  • Experience using hand and power tools; previous experience using forklifts and other construction equipment is a plus

  • Punctuality, dependability, and strong work ethic are an absolute must.

SUMMARY:

Individuals in this position move or rig machinery and equipment that is large, heavy or requires specialized equipment and methods to move, install or transport. This full-time position ultimately reports to the Operations Manager but may follow an initial functional reporting line to a Job Leader, Foreman or Project Manager. Most individuals in this position drive tractor/trailer combinations and possess a Class A CDL. When necessary or required, individuals in this position may also perform or assist with millwright services or support warehousing or equipment repair operations. This position can be subject to occasional or frequent overtime as needs or business conditions require.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES - PRIMARY:

  • Move large or heavy objects into desired positions, or control movement of machinery or equipment through narrow openings, confined or elevated spaces or along routes that present technical or logistical challenges to the movement of these items.

  • Select equipment such as shackles, slings, spreaders, jacks, hoists, pulleys, winches, levers, lift trucks, beams, clamps, etc., according to load weights, sizes, facility, environment and schedules.

  • Knowledge and proper application of rigging hardware and equipment including safe use and practices, daily or pre-use inspections, handling and storage.

  • Ability to safely and efficiently use a variety of trailers including tilt-bed, detachable, beaver tail, extending frame, curtain side, step decks, drops and van trailers as appropriate for the purpose.

  • Properly and safely load and secure items on trucks, trailers or containers with load securement devices complying with company practices, procedures and governing requirements. Tarp as necessary.

  • Ability to safely and efficiently use specialized heavy lifting and moving equipment such as lift trucks with forks, booms or other attachments, extendable frame lift trucks such as Versa-Lifts, personnel lifts, manual and hydraulic gantries, sliders, jacking systems, hoists, etc.

  • Understanding and ability to read basic load charts for cranes, lift trucks and other lifting equipment

  • Lift, slide, tilt, lower or maneuver loads into position over, under or around obstacles using single or multi-point suspension techniques.

  • Visually signal or verbally direct others engaged in the hoisting or movement of loads in order to ensure safe and efficient movement, especially with respect to crane or lift truck operations

  • Perform or assist in performing match-marking and dismantling or disassembling of machinery and equipment for relocation or reinstallation, and where required, perform reassembly or reinstallation.

  • Perform basic estimates of weight and center of gravity using material weights and volumetric or square foot calculations

  • Align, level and anchor machinery using precision levels and straightedges.

  • Ensure compliance to safe rigging practices at every step of the process

  • Be able to understand and follow rigging plans and instructions, job instructions and Job Safety Analysis (JSA's) to complete the assigned work

  • Complete required documents and paperwork such as Job Leader Reports and Bills of Lading

  • Perform all work with safety of individual and all those potentially impacted, as top priority.

  • Recognize and handle or treat precision and machined surfaces appropriately including protecting those surfaces from rigging, handling and the environment.

  • Perform daily inspections of tools, equipment, trucks, trailers, etc., as required

  • Use effective interpersonal skills to communicate with and maintain positive working relationships with team members and external contacts, vendors and customers.

  • Contribute to the goals of the company and leadership team as a whole.

  • Properly complete all required documentation on a timely basis including Job Leader Reports, timecards, time sheets, additional work authorizations, Bills of Lading, shipping documents, inspection reports, DOT documents, etc., as assigned or required of your position.

  • Abide by all company rules policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining the safest, cleanest and most professional work environment possible.

  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and take appropriate actions, recommend process changes and initiate improvements.

  • Be a positive role model for all team members providing support, enthusiasm and creating a professional, positive work environment.

  • Work additional hours in accordance with the business needs of this position.

As business conditions require, individuals in this position may be required to work with field crews assisting in performing machinery moving and rigging projects. Other areas of assistance could include, but is not limited to; servicing and repair of lift trucks or other heavy equipment, small tool and equipment repair and warehouse or yard operations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS/STANDARDS:

This position requires a technical school certification or advanced degree in diesel engines and/or related field. Knowledge of hydraulics is essential.

  • Valid driver's license required - CDL license preferred

  • Possess necessary tools to perform primary duties

  • Ability to clearly read and communicate in English; both verbally and written; ability to read and understand English

  • Computer skills with data accuracy and willingness to learn new software programs

  • Diagnostic and trouble-shooting competence relating to repairs

  • Effectively and accurately complete detailed work with a sense of urgency; always keeping safety at the forefront and demonstrating safe operating procedures and work practices

Basic standards of performance include the following:

  • Demonstrate sound judgment and ability to make logical decisions in support of business demands

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to interact and communicate effectively over phone and face-to-face building solid working relationships with team members and externally with vendors, suppliers, subcontractors, customers and consultants.

  • Use effective time management techniques and demonstrate ability to prioritize and multi-task without negatively impacting performance or results.

  • Demonstrate ability to anticipate and evaluate problems and situations and draw logical conclusions to make successful repairs.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently when required

  • Maintain composure and react professionally during times of stress

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is considered heavy physical work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess strength, stamina, and mobility to perform heavy physical work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and with exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals. Must be able to:

  • Walk, lift, reach, stoop, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, balance and crouch for extended periods

  • Visually inspect small defects and/or small parts

  • Operate machinery, motor vehicles, hand tools and job-specific equipment and tools

  • Determine accuracy and thoroughness of work

  • Demonstrate ability to hear and accurately interpret mechanical, technical and business information in an environment subject to noise, vibrations, etc.,

  • Perform all work safely in a fast-paced environment

  • Physical be capable of wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as respiratory protection (including face-sealing type), hand, eye and hearing protection, fall protection and other protection as may be required by the task(s) being performed.
