Hunton Andrews Kurth LLP, an international law firm, is actively recruiting a senior litigation paralegal for its Products and Mass Torts Litigation team in its Richmond, VA office. Provides sophisticated technical and substantive support to lawyers on the preparation of complex legal documents, technical legal research issues, and other advanced tasks related to one or more of the firm's legal practice areas.

Trains and mentors other paralegals and case clerks and coordinates the delegation of work to same. Provides leadership in supporting firm, office and team initiatives and in support of management directives.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

1.Generates revenue by meeting billable hour and other timekeeping expectations set forth by the firm. Proactively secures billable work, which may require working across teams and offices.

Maintains current and accurate daily time log; inputs time records into firm's time and accounting systems according to firm and outside counsel guidelines. Accounts for complete workday.

2.Follows the ethical requirements set forth by the Rules of Professional Conduct of the State in which work is performed.

3.Comprehensive knowledge and application of Federal, State, and Local Rules. Stays abreast of current rules changes and informs team of same.

4.Identifies appropriate laws, judicial decisions, legal articles, and other materials that are relevant to assigned cases, business transactions or regulatory matters. Analyzes and organizes the information, prepares written reports that lawyers use in determining how cases, business transactions, or regulatory matters should be handled. Assists with preparation of legal documents in draft and final form; assists lawyers during trials, meetings with clients, closings, and regulatory hearings.

5.Compiles data from reference materials such as virtual workrooms, digests, legal encyclopedias, regulations, legislative decisions, practice manuals, and materials produced in the discovery process. Creates and manages virtual workrooms and coordinates with client representatives regarding documentation to be maintained therein. Conducts and responds to detailed inquiries to obtain or convey information to lawyers and clients relative to the firm's legal practice; reviews and analyzes complex factual issues for the purpose of preparing status reports to lawyer and client.

6.Creates final drafts of correspondence, memoranda to file, and complex documents related to substance of a case or transaction for internal and external use; is fully operational and functions independently at trial and transactional events; is fully integrated with the case or transaction for the life of the matter.

7.Files and/or e-files documents with various governmental or other entities, as requested; adheres to firm's e-discovery guidelines and protocols. Analyzes complex legal documents and/or summarizes legal documents and depositions and, if applicable, participates in depositions and manages witness folders for same.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required. College degree preferred. Paralegal certificate, National Association of Legal Assistants certification or specialty certificate provided by State helpful.

Experience

Minimum of seven years of paralegal, or related business experience required; previous experience coordinating paralegal work or supervising case clerks preferred.

Other Qualifications

Comprehensive knowledge and application of Federal, State, and Local Rules. Knowledge of Microsoft Office and basic technological and research skills necessary to pull requested documents from online resources and familiarity with legal technology and computer databases required.

Must have ability to train other paralegals and work efficiently and accurately under pressure, and present a positive, professional image with colleagues, professional staff, and vendors. Ability to work overtime or travel, as needed, on short notice essential. Ability to work well under pressure, patience, diplomacy, high stress tolerance, excellent interpersonal communication skills, ability to prioritize workload and adapt to changing conditions.

Visual acuity needed for transcription, extensive reading and input (typing) of information into computer. Ability to receive and convey detailed information through oral communication. Essential competency processes include language ability, reasoning and memory. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent must possess the abilities or aptitudes to proficiently perform each of the responsibilities and accountabilities described above, with or without reasonable accommodation.
