Our plants are streamlined, technologically advanced, and equipped with the capability to add value well beyond basic film and foam production. We currently have an opportunity available for a Safety Engineer. Reporting to the Director of Safety, the Safety Engineer is responsible for developing and implementing safety programs at TPA's Rhode Island and Virginia locations to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions, utilizing knowledge of industrial processes, mechanics, engineering, chemistry, behavior-based safety, and industrial safety and health laws. Essential Duties: * Tours plant to inspect fire and safety equipment, machinery, and facilities to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. * Determines requirements for personal protective equipment and devices. Design reviews of builds, installs, and installation of safety devices on various machinery. * Conducts or coordinates safety and first aid training to educate workers about safety policies, laws, and practices. * Investigates industrial accidents to minimize recurrence and prepares accident reports. * May conduct industrial hygiene tests for the presence of environmental hazards (gas/vapor). * Reviews plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment to determine if all safety precautions have been included. * Performs Job Safety analyses to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control workplace hazards. * Conducts and documents safety inspections and maintains safety training records. * Conducts internal audits and company policy/procedure inspections on manufacturing floor. Consults with team members to identify unsafe conditions, acts and procedures, and recommend corrective actions. Tracks corrective actions for all accident and incidents by keeping an action registry up to date. * Leads investigations of accidents, incidents, and near misses to identify causes and determine how to prevent reoccurrence. * Provides strategic leadership and works with management on safety issues and recommendations to foster continuous improvement of safety culture and performance. * Maintains safety equipment supply and availability Requirements: Qualified candidates will have a BS degree (required) in an Engineering or Safety discipline and 3-5 years' experience as a Safety Engineer in a manufacturing/process engineering setting. Additional requirements include: * Very proficient in metrics/data/reporting as it relates to the Safety function * Working knowledge of State and Federal Occupational Safety and Health Laws. * Strong Word, Excel and PowerPoint Software skills. * Strong communication skills to include oral, written and presentation. * Solid organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to multi-task and handle shifting priorities.
