Responsible, under minimal supervision, for designing, configuring, testing, commissioning, and supporting distributed telemetry networks related to Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems. Design, test, construct, modify and install radio transmitters, receivers, and other communications equipment in permanent locations. Monitor system requirements from startup to implementation to ensure customers needs are satisfied in a cost-effective, timely and professional manner.
Collect and review information from available sources to determine a projects functional requirements, the customers objectives, budgetary and environmental constraints, and networking & telemetry scope.
Evaluate specified and potential solutions based on the customers objectives and Tescos engineering standards.
Work in a team to perform assessments and evaluations of existing telemetry and network systems.
Perform preliminary software RF Modeling.
Perform preliminary site survey planning.
Work in a team to perform onsite RF Surveys.
Conduct site walks and surveys to determine equipment selection and LOS (Line of Site) for radios.
Prepare formal reports of radio studies and system assessments.
Design water and wastewater SCADA communications solutions
Configure core equipment (network, security and radio devices) & maintain internal documentation per company standards.
Assemble, cable, configure, and commission a variety of radios and related equipment.
Perform acceptance tests for conformance to specifications.
Assist with equipment deployment, on-site configuration, and system troubleshooting as determined by department manager or senior staff.
Climb towers, ladders or operate lift equipment to install equipment when the area is inaccessible from the ground.
When acting as Site Lead, coordinate customer contact and access to customer premises.
Provide on-site customer training.
Ensure the highest quality of service is provided to promote superior customer satisfaction.
Coordinate customer FCC Licensing.
Participate in formal training to maintain and expand the company knowledgebase of current and emerging technologies.
Mentor and train other employees on related tasks as needed.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or similar field of study.
At least 4 years of industrial networking experience.
At least 3 years of experience with RF propagation modeling software.
Certification on industrial rated radio equipment.
Strong knowledge of industrial telemetry protocols, such as Modbus TCP, Ethernet IP, and DNP3.0.
Comprehensive understanding of networking principles for both TCP/IP and serial systems.
Experience designing systems involving VPN, Vlans, ACL, NAT, RSTP, SNMP, SPI, RADIUS, IPSec, and SSL.
Familiar with creating filters and analyzing statistics using Wireshark or similar software.
Experience configuring Firewalls, Routers, Ethernet Switches (Layer 2 and 3)
Experience with hardware manufacturers like Cisco, Palo Alto, Checkpoint, Juniper.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products with advanced skills in Excel, Access, and Visio.
Strong understanding of Microsoft and Linux Operating systems.
Proficiency with VMWare products.
Be able to provide on-demand solutions to antenna and radio installation challenges.
Be organized, prompt, professional and efficient with excellent attention to detail.
Work independently and quickly with minimal supervision.
Must be able to identify all subtasks required to accomplish assigned projects, determine tool and material requirements, prioritize work and develop plans to complete assigned tasks within the allotted time.
Strong knowledge of current computer technology and networking fundamentals.
Understanding of cybersecurity guidelines related to Industrial Control Systems
Knowledge of radio communications and electronic principles, characteristics, functions, operation and capabilities and how to apply them to a variety of radios and electronic equipment.
Knowledge of testing equipment and tools used in adjusting radio equipment.
Knowledge of FCC rules and regulations governing public safety radio service.
Understanding of RF propagation theory and model tuning of the radio planning tool across a number of the following frequencies - 150MHz to 5.8 GHz.
Experience with RF planning tool outputs (Pathloss, Siradel, Forsk Atoll, Planet, or IBwave) and GIS tools (MapInfo, QGIS, ArcView).
Understanding of RF Engineering, Radio Frequency theory, and Electricity and Electronics theory.
Working knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC), ANSI/TIA/EIA cabling standards and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and codes.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and design package to ensure the proper installation of engineered design IAW with drawings and engineering documentation.
