What You Will Be Doing

  • Design and document electronic hardware for customer products, and related electronics, to meet both the customers' requirements and internal manufacturing requirements

  • Provide assistance and interact with Mechanical Design, PCB Design, Functional Test and In-Circuit Test for product, test and tooling development

  • Develop and follow project plan; Gather status and report project status to leadership and the customer

  • Provide sub-project level or full smaller scale project leadership and organization, as required, for multiple concurrent projects, mentoring and training for engineers

  • Deploy processes and systems within the work-group

  • Develop project proposals and associate cost estimates

  • Work with internal manufacturing support groups to understand the requirements of the production environment

  • Work with customers to understand customer requirements regarding a product design

  • Provide research and development for new design methods and tools under management guidance

  • Participate in identification and development of advanced/new technologies

  • Drive design/development related business discussions on internal customer team(s

  • Perform portions of and lead Design for Excellence (DFX) efforts; Create necessary documentation

  • Communicate technical challenges and implement solutions where possible and as required

  • Lead or participate in a continuous improvement activity with complete documentation, including a follow up review with the team in a presentation format

This position will be based in a manufacturing plant located in Tijuana, Mexico

What You Need for this Position

4 year Engineering or Technical degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience
5+ years of experience in RF design and development
Knowledge in the design software FHSS and/ or CST.
Ability to travel to customer sites, including outside the US.
Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills

Ability to commute and work in Tijuana, Mexico.

The Staff Tool Design Engineer designs/leads/coordinates various tooling, fixturing for machining, welding, assembly, handling, ground support and composites tooling. On occasions, position requires support of Master Dimension activities, such as design assist for NC machining and Mylar creation and plotting for inspection tooling. This position will work directly with multiple engineering disciplines (Manufacturing, Product, Quality, Stress, etc). The Staff Engineer will also serve as technical focal for tooling related issues on new and legacy product designs and manufacturing processes. Primary Responsibilities * Must communicate and interface openly and frequently with Managers, Project Engineers and other engineers and participate/lead periodic project reviews and customer discussions, as required, to ensure customer satisfaction. * Must be able to perform calculations of equipment sizing and define structural and technical specifications. * Must be able to adopt and implement Continuous Improvement and Lean principles, including but not limited to leading Kaizen events. * Carries out detailed tool designs and or checks work utilizing CATIA V5 3D modelling (Model Based Definition) designs standard work. * Responsible for preparing, coordinating and presenting design reviews. * Ensures configuration control of designs and business strategies. Responsible for leading/mentoring junior level engineers. Experience & Qualification Basic Qualifications: * 5+ years direct relevant experience in Tool Engineering and Manufacturing, Operations environment (Aerospace preferred). * Strong Mechanical/Manufacturing Aptitude. * Good understanding of assembly, machining and composite manufacturing processes. * Good understanding of tool fabrication processes including welding, machining, heat treat, etc. * Good understanding of Handling Equipment (loads, CG), and Ground Support Equipment. Good understanding of ANSI Dimensioning and Tolerancing. Knowledge of CAD/CAM systems, CATIA V5 MBD (2000 hours minimum) experience preferred. * Experienced in Lean manufacturing principles and strong aptitude towards implementing continuous improvement. Experienced in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.) and good technical writing skills. * Experience with tooling stress analysis in FEM and classical methods. Education & Certifications * Bachelor's degree in Engineering Discipline (Mechanical, Industrial, Aero) * Experience in lieu of education.
