The position is part of the system deployments organization and requires providing network support during deployment and operations of L+G's AMI solution. Key activities include network design validation, production network configuration and troubleshooting, network performance assessment and network optimization. The position requires building and maintaining a thorough understanding of L+G's proprietary network protocol and becoming highly proficient with the network tools for RF analysis and upgrades. While the position specializes in the network component of the system, it requires building a working knowledge of overall system functionality and specifically, how the network interacts with the head-end system supporting key features like security, network and configuration upgrades, RF packet broadcasting, packet routing, etc. Up to 10-50% of travel may be required.

  • Performing site survey and running spectrum analysis for communications and interference.

  • Monitoring and troubleshooting network operation and performance issues and propose remedy options.

  • Validating network design and running connectivity and packet stress tests.

  • Interfacing with the network design team and providing operational guidance and feedback

  • Providing functional and operational enhancement recommendations into the New Product Introduction (NPI) process based on the field deployment experience

  • Ability to work with clients for providing technical expertise and solutions.

  • Acting as a primary resource for network performance assessment and optimization during and post deployment

  • Ensuring network configuration and performance meet customer technical requirements

  • Establishing and monitoring network performance reporting, recognizing adverse trends and taking necessary preventative and corrective actions

  • Executing remote network upgrades with new software releases

  • Working closely with the field engineers to resolve complex issues related to RF communications to meters and network devices

  • Supporting creation of standard operating procedures for network optimization that are effective and repeatable

Required Skills

  • Highly adaptable in a dynamic work environment

  • Experience in working with solutions involving both software and hardware

  • Experience in process definition and delivery to meet overall business objectives

  • Accustomed to working in an environment driven by high standards for service and system delivery

  • Excellent customer communications and customer service skills

  • Utility operations experience is a plus

Required Experience

  • A associate's degree in electrical, electronics, RF or a related filed

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with wireless networks in design or deployment

  • Working knowledge of wireless technologies (UMTS, HSPA, GSM, EDGE) and protocol RF

  • Understanding of CDMA, EVDO, WiMax, LTE is a plus

  • Minimum 2 years experience working with a TCP/IP based network using Windows and/or Unix client/servers

The Territory RF/Traffic Engineer 3 will work with team members and multiple regions to standardize traffic reporting and tools. Incorporate best practices using automation and process improvements. This position can be located in any valid Verizon location. * Work as a team with the regions, including but not limited to RF and Engineering to ensure current and future triggers are properly addressed. Utilize Fuze Planning and One Plan and enhance both platforms. * Analyze the capacity plans developed by the regions to ensure that capacity triggers are being addressed with adequate solutions, through FP and One Plan. * Participate in the regional capacity sessions. Observe the regional challenges and concerns so that we can provide better support. Offer alternative perspectives on what to prioritize with respect to Territory goals. * Work with regions to ensure that each sector < 3 Mbps has a plan in place to improve UPTP. * Work closely with Planning and HQ to incorporate changes in usage forecast to our growth projections. * Collaborate on the 6 month to 2 year growth plan and development of capital plans for the East Territory, working with the Regional Engineering teams and HQ planning. Provide roadmap and guidelines on for traffic planning and trending. * Conduct data analysis on KPI trends to find opportunities to improve planning. Develop and use service level data to determine the impact of new sites with regards to offload and performance. * Monitor current RF system efficiency metrics and assist with recommendations on improvement to meet capital and corporate objectives. * Continually review all aspects of Traffic planning. Use propagation modeling software to develop cell and carrier plans, pursue technical issues and reviewing new technical products/services to the benefit and improvement of the overall network. * Work with RF and Engineering to identify ways in which we can deploy solutions cost effectively and faster. Develop strategies that will reduce cost and timeframes. * Work with RF to standardize design configurations, equipment and processes. * Participate in the evolution of standardization processes for all traffic teams. * Participate in the development of Fuze Planning and One Plan as it relates to traffic.
