Position Summary

The successful candidate will support the Results of Operations (RO) financial modeling team as a RO model expert witness in certain regulatory cases. The position is responsible for creating cost recovery models for specific programs that fit PG&E's strategic future. As an expert witness, the successful candidate will support the regulatory case management team throughout the case management process by preparing and sponsoring testimony, exhibits, workpapers, and discovery responses. In addition, the position involves internal analysis for policy research, strategic decisions, reports, validation and presenting results to senior management. Internal analysis examples include income tax memorandum account computations, imputed capital cost regulatory targets and high-level revenue requirement estimation to support regulatory filings, settlement negotiation analysis and business decision making.

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering or Business or related discipline; or equivalent work experience

  • Requires a minimum of six years of regulatory, accounting, financial, or business-related experience

Desired:

  • Typically seven years of relevant experience

  • Advanced Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills

  • Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Advanced strategic problem solving and decision-making skills.

  • Advanced presentation skills in public forums or to senior management and officers.

  • Strong understanding of revenue requirement, regulatory accounting principles/balancing account theory, concepts and practice.

  • Able to present analysis and evaluation results and output in a cohesive, understandable format for external parties such as the California Public Utility Commission

  • Ability to write compelling testimony in support of RO calculations

  • MS Excel macro programming knowledge is a plus

  • Database knowledge

Responsibilities

  • Leads the development of RO models including, defining process, developing schedules, actual production, and writing testimony.

  • Validates complex tools. Develops conclusions and recommendations and presents to Supervisor and Managers.

  • Acts as a RO model witness for regulatory cases of moderate complexity, prepare testimony, revenue requirement models and testify at proceedings and coordinate with the project management team and other witnesses.

  • Leads development and documentation of processes, guidelines, standards, models and analytics. Leads continuous improvement projects to include partnering with peers and working with stakeholder departments.

  • Provides decision support to senior management and researches needed areas for analysis.

  • Interfaces with internal and external stakeholders, including CPUC, regarding model input and output, explaining the process, the assumptions, and interpreting the results. Presents to senior manager or case managers to gain approval.

  • Present RO model information at commission workshops and witness trainings.

  • Analyzes spending profiles and cost categories to understand how various costs and trends impact current and future cost of service

  • Supports team members on various tasks and handle special projects as assigned.

Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the individual will work with cross-functional teams to help develop and implement processes to improve operational efficiency. Candidate should have a strong understanding of software revenue recognition and the ability to research technical accounting literature to provide robust analysis and conclusions.</p><p>This role also provides a great opportunity to get your feet wet in various parts of the accounting close and audit process. We are looking for someone who has the drive to learn and grow within the Company. The ideal candidate is highly analytical and thrives in a fast-paced startup environment.<br /><br /><br /></p><p><strong>RESPONSIBILITIES</strong></p><ul><li>Ability to read complex contracts/agreements and identify pertinent terms and issues to provide appropriate accounting guidance and propose solutions within Company&rsquo;s existing revenue recognition policy and accounting literature (SAB 101, SAB 104, SOP 97-2, EITF 08-1) as well as the new revenue recognition standard, ASC 606.</li><li>Collaborate cross functionally with other teams with respect to product launches and pricing changes to provide guidance on technical accounting, policy or process issues in the area of revenue recognition.</li><li>Approve and commit sales orders for revenue recognition and maintain documentation supporting the revenue recognition schedules.</li><li>Work closely with Sales, Finance, and Professional Services teams to improve process workflow within Netsuite and integration with other systems (e.g. Salesforce and WorkFront) and provide guidance to ensure accurate generation of sales orders entry and invoices.</li><li>Run monthly close process for revenue, including preparing JEs, reconciliations, reporting and analysis for revenue, deferred revenue, AR and unbilled receivable accounts. Must be able to calculate and analyze VSOE or ESP for the Company&rsquo;s products as well as calculate bad debt and sales return reserves in accordance with GAAP.</li><li>Coordinate with outside tax experts and drive the sales tax compliance process to ensure proper and timely reporting in various applicable states, including state registration, voluntary disclosure agreement application, customer communication, etc.</li><li>Manage AR collections, provide monthly AR aging detail report, review cash application, prepare state and local excise and property tax filings, etc.</li><li>Assist with procedure documentation and implementing processes and accounting policies within the company.</li><li>Assist in the preparation of month-end financial package, including balance sheet and P&amp;L flux analyses.</li><li>Assist with external audits and prepare ad hoc analyses as needed. <br /><br /></li></ul><p><strong>QUALIFICATIONS</strong></p><ul><li>BS/BA degree from a top tier school (Accounting, Finance or Economics)</li><li>Minimum three (3) - five (5) years industry</li><li>Big 4 experience (audit) preferred</li><li>Certified Public Accountant is a plus</li><li>Experience using Netsuite and Salesforce is highly desirable</li><li>Superior analytical skills.</li><li>Excellent written and verbal communication skills.</li><li>Detail oriented and able to effectively organize and manage multiple responsibilities.</li><li>Able to work both independently and collaboratively with a team and suggest improvements to various processes.</li><li>Positive and upbeat personality to work in a dynamic environment with all levels of management and functions</li><li>Strong understanding of accounting and finance principles.</li><li>Prior experience with SaaS company is a plus</li></ul><p>&nbsp;</p> Emerging Growth Staffing San Francisco CA
