Your Mission:

The Revenue Accountant plays a critical role in positioning Medidata as a leader of best-in-class accounting practices and processes. The Revenue Accountant manages multiple revenue functions as well as provides meaningful insight into accounting treatment for complex contracts. This position requires a person with impeccable attention to detail who is comfortable managing a variety of functions while providing a high level of value to our partners across the business.

  • Analyze customer contracts to identify complex provisions and advise on appropriate treatment under ASC 606

  • Partner with the Commercial Accounting and Sales functions to optimize contract structure under ASC 606

  • Manage monthly and quarterly revenue close process including monitoring, review, and analysis of revenue activity

  • Reconcile and review Deferred Revenue and prepare required adjusting entries

  • Manage accounting related to incremental costs of obtaining contracts, including variable sales compensation

  • Perform technical accounting research and prepare documentation around complex revenue recognition accounting issues

  • Assist in compliance and maintenance of Sarbanes Oxley requirements

  • Review and support all revenue recognition disclosures in all SEC filings.

  • Ensure compliance with key controls and accurate GAAP reporting and fulfill internal and external reporting requirements, including the external audit

Your Competencies:

  • Strong technical accounting skills and exposure to revenue recognition rules under U.S. GAAP (mastery of revenue recognition not required)

  • Impeccable attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and ability to multi-task on a variety of complex projects

  • Experience in researching accounting literature to resolve complex U.S. GAAP technical issues, with the ability to communicate findings and conclusions to financial and non-financial personnel

Your Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required in Accounting or Finance

  • 1-2 years public accounting audit experience (or 2-4 years of a mix of public and private experience) with a focus on revenue recognition

  • Experience at a global SaaS company preferred or enterprise software company with many multiple element arrangements preferred

  • CPA or CPA candidate strongly preferred

About the role: The Senior/PrincipalTechnical Accountant will be a key member of the Boston Scientific Center of Excellence for Leasing and Revenue Recognition. This team member will serve a critical role as a subject matter expert for both revenue recognition and lease accounting (ASC 606 and ASC 842, respectively) at Boston Scientific. Main responsibilities include collaborating with BSC's global accounting teams to determine appropriate accounting treatment for certain transactions, researching applicable accounting guidance when complex revenue recognition and lease accounting matters arise, and presenting findings and accounting updates to the global business. The position will have significant interaction with the Corporate Accounting & Consolidation, Divisional Finance, and Sourcing teams, and is highly visible to Corporate Accounting senior leadership (including the Corporate Controller). Key responsibilities include: * Act as a liaison for the divisions and regions as specific revenue recognition and lease accounting questions arise * Collaborate with other members of the BSC Center of Excellence for Leasing and Revenue Recognition to determine the appropriate accounting for questions raised by the divisions and regions * Help to carry out company policies and procedures put in place as a result of the new revenue recognition standard (ASC 606) * Assist the business in the ongoing implementation of the new leasing standard (ASC 842) * Research, read, and analyze the applicable accounting guidance * Communicate accounting conclusions to the divisions and regions * Educate the global business on complexities in the accounting and key impacts beyond accounting * Leading ad-hoc technical accounting projects, as needed What we're looking for: Education: * Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent experience and education * CPA required * Master's degree a plus Minimal requirements: * 3-6 years relevant experience in a medium to large public accounting firm (Big Four/Large Regional) * Prior experience in technical accounting and implementing ASC 606 strongly preferred * The successful candidate will need to exhibit the following skills: * Strong GAAP accounting knowledge, specifically focused on ASC 606 and ASC 842 * Problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret and apply technical accounting literature * Ability to work autonomously and act in a consultative role * Outstanding verbal and written communication skills * Ability to work with cross-functional teams * Strong process and time management skills This position may be filled as a Senior Acountant or Principal Accountant depending on the final candidate's experience and expertise..
