Revenue Accounting Manager

Summary

As SoundThinking continues its growth path and momentum, the company is seeking a Revenue Accounting Manager to oversee the company's revenue recognition, billings and collections, commissions, and compliance with SOX. This position is based at the Company's HQ location in Fremont, CA - with a current expectation of in-office presence 3 days a week.

Reporting Relationship

We are looking for a collaborative, detailed oriented professional who is excited about being part of a growing and purpose-oriented company. The Revenue Accounting Manager will report to the Corporate Controller and partner with other Finance department leads to ensure compliance with revenue recognition and timely reporting of all customer related transactions.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Revenue Accounting: Review sales contracts and determine revenue recognition treatment in accordance with company policy and ASC 606. Be able to flag non-standard contracts and potential revenue recognition issues.

• Billing and Accounts Receivable: Oversee invoicing and collections. Improve the process for monitoring and reducing days outstanding of receivables.

• Commissions: Prepare sales commission calculations and related journal entries. Provide necessary commission payout information to payroll team and sales directors. Drive process improvement to streamline the commissions process.

• Financial Planning & Analysis: Assist with annual revenue budget and refresh forecast with monthly actuals. Update model for revenue forecasts.

• Month-end close: Support the Controller in managing the month-end close including accounting for and maintaining deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, allocation of deferred product COGS and commissions schedules.

• SEC Filings and External Audit Support: Support the team with the preparation of financial statements and quarterly SEC filing. Prepare revenue-related supporting schedules for the preparation of the Company's 10-Q and 10-K. Assist with tie-out, audit requests and address auditor queries.

• SOX compliance: Own SOX compliance process for revenue-related controls.

• Perform accounting research and draft memos.

• Lead and assist with other special projects as needed; take on additional duties and ad-hoc activities, including support of quarter close activities outside of revenue accounting.

Minimum Qualifications

• BA/BS in Finance, Accounting, or related field of study.

• Six years of combined accounting experience, with at least 2 years at a public accounting firm and at least 4 years working in a company's revenue team.

• Strong working knowledge of ASC 606 required. Able to apply the five-step revenue recognition framework to various contracts.

• High technical aptitude with MS-Excel and other software tools.

• Good understanding of the audit process. Able to drive audit requests and issues to completion.

• Prior experience with technical accounting research and writing memos.
