Retirement Service Consultant

The Retirement Service Consultant is responsible for establishing and growing relationships with our Distribution Partners to drive sales by uncovering opportunities within assigned territories and using advanced retirement and product knowledge. Working in partnership with all areas of Retirement Services, this role will establish the path to additional sales in the desired retirement markets by instilling trust, providing specialized education on plans, products, and helping agents through the sales process. Working in collaboration with our Distribution Field Leaders, the Retirement Service Consultant will deepen, and expand our Distribution relationships.

The Retirement Service Consultant is a trusted advisor with a deep understanding of the Retirement Business, our Distribution Partners' operating structures, National Life's processes, and overall business needs, to maximize value. This requires a working knowledge of the IRS guidelines for retirement plans, understanding of how our products fit within the Plans, and familiarity with National Life's New Business process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create business development strategies focused on growing the retirement business

  • Design and lead education programs using advanced product knowledge targeting specific opportunities, using knowledge of each region and to grow business and track success

  • Acting in an advisory capacity with distribution partners, work with National Life Group's Marketing team to identify and create marketing materials needed to reach new markets

  • Partner with Senior Relationship Managers to drive production within a defined territory

  • Analyze key metrics and success measures for implemented strategies to improve quality of advisory and consulting services provided by Retirement Service Consultant

  • Oversee escalations and identify and address the root cause to improve quality of advisory and consulting services provided by Retirement Service Consultant

  • Using advanced product knowledge, collaborate with the Advanced Markets team to identify cross-selling opportunities

  • Primary point of contact for agents work with retirement plans, specifically 403(b/457, partnering by offer guidance on retirement plans and related product offerings.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related area or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 5-7 years of experience in financial services working with retirement plans

  • Have a working knowledge of Fixed Index Annuities

  • Experience or working knowledge of Third-Party Administration and qualified plan administration

  • Understanding or ability to quickly learn and gain expertise on NLG's products, services, systems, and processes

  • Familiarity with ERISA, IRS and DOL regulations

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to continuously reprioritize an evolving workload

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to work well independently and collaborate effectively with a team

Ability to travel up to 25%

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position.
