Application Requirements
Introduction
Job Summary
Essential Functions
Calculate service credit, benefit amounts, benefit estimates, and eligibility for retirement.
Process applications and forms regarding retirement benefits.
Coordinate with members and employers to ensure that appropriate documentation has been received. Verifies salary data. Updates changes to member records.
Determine eligibility and calculates cost for delinquent service or unused sick leave service credit. Communicate with the employers for collection of amounts owed.
Determine eligibility and calculates repayment of withdrawn contributions and service purchases related to temporary total disability and communicates this information to the employer and member.
Process death applications for active and retired members and joint annuitants.
Process refunds of ineligible contributions.
Prepares and reviews outgoing correspondence.
Calculate withdrawals, verifies service credit, and prepares vested benefit offers for eligible members. Schedule withdrawal payment dates. Determine eligibility for rollover of contributions and coordinates with members and financial institutions.
Process new retirements, vesting, and de-vesting for members.
Respond to telephone and email inquiries. Counsel members in person and replies to correspondence from members regarding various benefits and credits.
Assist in other areas of the agency as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Knowledge of current computer software and applications.
Knowledge of basic arithmetic, basic accounting methods, procedures, and terminology.
Knowledge of state laws and agency rules and processes related to retirement system benefits.
Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population.
Ability to apply state laws and agency rules and processes to benefit calculations, eligibility, and other retirement-related issues.
Ability to analyze appropriate records and determine authorized benefits.
Ability to counsel members and employers on retirement benefits and eligibility.
Ability to effectively manage time, organize work, and prioritize tasks.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
