Job Summary
The Retention Coordinator is responsible for the organization of outreach and retention efforts for the completion of educational opportunities in STEM fields and obtaining a four-year degree. The position develops and implements career and STEM Ambassador activities. This is a temporary grant funded position. This grant position will be eligible for participation in the Florida Retirement System (FRS) after 6 months of continuous employment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provides students with services and resources to start and complete educational opportunities in STEM fields and achieve desired degree followed by a transfer to a four-year STEM degree
Develops methodologies for improving the identification and intervention of at-risk students and guides students with creating, following, and adjusting Individualized Educational Plans (IEP)
Coordinates outreach efforts, student mentoring, student engagement and progression
Develops and facilitates workshops related to academic advising, career exploration, transfer process, and employability skills, while monitoring student academic progress
Assists with the development of statistics and other pertinent data for analyzing the effectiveness of established programs
Prepares statistical graphs, reports, and empirical studies that measure program effectiveness on targeted program outcomes and reporting to grant funders, stakeholders, and advisory board members
Develops and manages a database for the students' data collection and analysis
Collects and reviews data to be entered into the program database
Researches and gathers critical information to measure the effect and impact of the STEM
program interventions
Coordinates Learning Assistant activities and other project specific support services in collaboration with Program Director and MDC Student Services and Workforce Development
Ensures program efforts are in compliance with the requirements of the different funding sources
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
Master's degree in STEM field, Education or related field from a regionally accredited institution and one (1) year of related experience in academic and/or higher education advisement and working with under prepared and limited language proficient students; or Bachelor's degree in STEM field, Education from a regionally accredited institution and five (5) years of related experience in academic and/or higher education advisement and working with under prepared and limited language proficient students.
All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
Knowledge and understanding of College organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
Knowledge and understanding of individual learning styles, current STEM pedagogy and application of best practices and retention strategies
Knowledge of grant management including budgeting, program and personnel management, evaluation, and reporting; student academic advisement experience
Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all materials related to counseling with students and other personnel related files as dictated by the college, state and federal rules and regulations
Knowledge of Microsoft office software and specific computer programs related to area of responsibility
Knowledge of computer network systems and installation of operations systems
Demonstrated experience with database development and management, program software, MS Office and statistical procedures and analysis
Ability to work a flexible schedule which may include evening or weekend assignments
Ability to work well in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff
Additional Requirements
