Overview

The Retail Lending Manager provides leadership and overall management for bank's small business (Gross Annual Revenues $1 MM) lending market. Key responsibilities include small business loan production and financial performance; sales leadership (business development); CRA and community outreach; and personnel management.

Job Description

Duties/Responsibilities:

Risk Management. alignment with Enterprise Risk Management, acts as the first line of defense administering policies and procedures:

  • Manages credit risk through origination and documentation.

  • Develops personal and business unit credibility with credit approvers, compliance and executive management.

  • Prudently exercises judgment when making business decisions.

  • Ensures all activities and work functions comply with company policies and procedures and state/federal laws and regulations.

Financial Performance. Delivers individual and business unit production and financial performance that meets or exceeds budget:

  • Demonstrates meaningful growth in quality earning assets and driving CRA qualified loans.

  • Proactively manages non-interest expense to avoid waste or inefficiency.

  • Drives expense savings and improved productivity.

  • Delivers net income contribution without inappropriately increasing enterprise risk.

  • Builds a sustainable business and growing market share.

  • Manages and Clears loan exceptions for Retail/Small Business Banking.

  • Manages pipeline Reports.

  • Manages Past due loan reporting.

Relationship/Prospect Management. Ensures individual and business unit appropriately manages prospective customer relationships, balancing risk-return:

  • Consistently adds new small business loan customers to build and diversify the revenue stream, with a focus around identified branches.

  • Coordinates customer experience throughout the organization primarily by introducing Retail Banking partner at the appropriate time.

Sales Leadership. Drives sales results for the business unit (individually and through assigned staff) through:

  • Maintain deep pipeline of targeted prospects, active customers, and new business opportunities.

  • Administers sales effectiveness training and development.

  • Provides loan training to all Retail Banking employees.

  • Manages loan pipeline for Retail Banking within the region.

  • Develops strategic relationships with centers of influence and community organizations.

  • Refers to other product partners and/or business units to increase product penetration and relationship profitability.

Community Outreach/CRA. Works closely with the bank's CRA officer to identify areas of focus to ensure bank's CRA objectives are met.

  • Fosters established relationships with non-profit CRA organizations.

  • Identifies opportunities to engage with small business organizations in the bank's assessment areas.

  • Represents bank through active involvement on boards and attend key small business functions.

Personnel Management. Manages overall personnel effectiveness, including recruitment, development, retention and results:

  • Provides overall leadership in directing and training the Retail Lending Staff.

  • Participates in recruiting activities to ensure quality candidate pool ensuring depth and breadth of talent.

  • Ensure appropriate Talent Management activities and development plans are in place for staff.

  • Provides a fun, rewarding environment conducive to employee engagement.

  • Effectively manage performance through feedback, coaching, and utilization of the performance management process

  • Ensures active participation in required or company-sponsored training.

Qualifications:

Education Requirements:

  • BA in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or other related field or equivalent experience.

  • Preferred MBA or other post-graduate studies.

Minimum Experience:

  • 7 years small business banking production experience. Prior CRA focus and/or responsibilities preferred.
  • 3 years' experience meeting with community organizations that support small business lending.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • C&I credit underwriting training (or commensurate experience preferred.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities:

  • Demonstrated leadership skills and professionalism.

  • Skilled in monitoring/assessing the performance of self, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.

  • Ability to effectively plan, manage, and delegate the work of others.

  • In-depth knowledge of the banking industry.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with internal/external constituents.

  • Demonstrated analytical, decision making and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to build personal credibility with credit approval authorities.

  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate on behalf of the Bank and the borrower while appropriately balancing risk and shareholder value.

  • Ability to work in a team environment and demonstrate flexibility as business dictates.

  • Ability and willingness to investigate, resolve, and recommend process improvement opportunities.
