Position Summary

This position is designed to provide Smooth Ambler guests with an outstanding and unique whiskey experience. Our tasting room representative works to ensure guests receive the best impression of Smooth Ambler, with a focus on customer service and sales. The presentation made to the guests must be carried out properly, professionally, and in a manner consistent with the philosophies and image of Smooth Ambler. Tasting room representatives will have strong knowledge and passion for whiskey, and exhibit enthusiasm in sharing this information with our guests.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide guests with an outstanding and unique experience. This includes:

  • Providing a friendly and sincere greeting.

  • Educating guests about Smooth Ambler's history, products, and distilling process.

  • Developing ongoing relationships with guests to stimulate repeat visits and future sales.

  • Hosting a unique and engaging tasting.

  • Pouring and describing whiskeys and whiskey-making techniques.

  • Setting up and conducting general and private tours and tastings for trade, VIPs or club members.

  • Promote and sell Smooth Ambler whiskey products and gift merchandise

  • Assist with assigned special events, special whiskey tastings, and VIP luncheons/dinners.

  • Participation in regularly scheduled staff meetings.

  • Support daily business functions, including opening and closing procedures, whiskey inventory, and restocking.

  • Accurate handling of routine purchasing transactions through the point-of-sale and daily sales accounting.

  • Assist with bar, cashier, or phone duties as needed.

  • Responds graciously to customer requests and feedback.

  • Stays current on recent whiskey reviews and can converse at a basic level on different whiskey styles and process.

Qualification Requirements

  • Hospitality and proven sales results in the whiskey or restaurant/hotel/retail industry.

  • Knowledge of whiskey & whiskey production as would normally be attained through 1-3 years of experience in the whiskey industry.

  • Ability to read, write and speak English; bilingual any other language a plus.

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Some college level education preferred, specifically in Business Administration, Marketing or Public Relations.

  • Excellent verbal & interpersonal communication skills required.

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift heavy boxes (40-50 lbs) on a repeated basis.

  • Position entails excessive standing and walking, and considerable bending.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Experience in a fast-paced, high-end hospitality environment

  • Clean and professional appearance

  • Flexible schedule including weekends, some holidays and evenings as necessary

The hourly range for this role, based in West Virginia is $15.50 to $19.25, range will vary if outside of this location. Base salaries Hourly Rates are determined during our interview process, by assessing a candidate's experience, skills against internal peers and against the scope and responsibilities of the position.
