Under the direct supervision of the Director or a Registered Pharmacist ‑ and according to the standard procedures ‑ compounds and readies for dispensing medications and pharmaceutical supplies upon receiving orders from physicians or other qualified prescribers; types labels; processes patient charge documents; mixes IV additive solutions as required using aseptic technique with the laminar air flow hood; and performs various other related duties.

What You Will Do:

Procures and distributes drug orders per physician request, pharmacist request or prearranged work assignment according to established policies, procedures and protocols, and within specified time frame.

  • Fills physician orders, medication surgical kits, medication carts or medication requisitions and specialty items/bins accurately.

  • Identifies and fills replacement medications on emergency crash carts, procedural carts and floor stock/automated dispensing cabinets accurately.

  • Prepares sterile products (including chemotherapy) accurately according to USP 797 and 800 standards. Must be proficient in mathematics, basic and advanced pharmacy calculations and display essential critical thinking skills.

  • Must be a certified pharmacy technician.

  • Must maintain competency with regard to oncologic regimens, calculations, medications and sterile technique.

  • Delivers medications and supplies to patient care and ancillary areas accurately.

  • Verifies all orders with pharmacist on duty.

  • Maintains adequate stock of medications and supplies according to established policies, procedures, and protocols and within specific time frame.

  • Assists in ordering, receiving, unpacking and storing pharmaceuticals and supplies in appropriate locations.

  • Rotates stock to ensure use before expiration date.

  • Identifies and replaces outdated and unusable drugs.

  • Restocks medication and IV dispensing areas.

  • Utilizes pre-packaging machine, Pyxis, and other automated systems.

  • Performs monthly unit inspections of selected areas.

  • Pre-packages medications in unit of use containers accurately and appropriately.

  • Contributes to the effective operation of the department.

  • Picks up orders, requisitions and medications for return from patient care areas when on delivery rounds.

  • Utilizes billing and other technician service functions in the pharmacy computer system accurately.

  • Generates reports, pick lists and labels as required.

  • Answers the telephone, identifying self and department. Directs calls to appropriate personnel.

  • Answers requests at the window and makes STAT deliveries to patient care areas when requested.

  • Organizes and prioritizes work assignments.

  • Maintains logs, records and other required documentation accurately. Files in appropriate locations.

  • Demonstrates good verbal and written communication.

  • Keeps pharmacy areas clean, neat, and well-organized. Keeps pharmacy equipment clean.

  • Completes all assigned medication storage area inspections in a timely manner.

  • Conducts quality monitors, collects data and completes documentation, as assigned.

  • Attends and regularly participates in quality projects and committee work.

What You Will Need:

  • High School diploma or equivalent. Must have and maintain an active Pharmacy Intern's license and remain in good standing with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy.

  • Demonstrated ability to organize work, and work under minimum supervision.

  • Ability to read and write small letters and numbers and perform basic arithmetic.

  • Ability to understand and effectively communicate in both written and oral form, and handle sensitive telephone and face‑to‑face inquiries.

  • Ability to comply with OSHA regulations, USP 797 standards, and CDC standard and transmission-based precaution recommendations and to utilize proper personal protective equipment. Ability to comply with provisions of applicable S.D.S. forms.

  • Successful completion of a ninety (90) day probationary period.
