  • Respiratory Therapist/Sleep Technologist Sleep Care (Sisters of Charity Hospital St. Joseph Campus):

Performs prescribed procedures of respiratory care and the sleep laboratory under the direction of a physician in accordance with established policies, practices and standards.

REPORTS TO: Clinical Coordinator/ Lead Sleep Technologist

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

None

SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM):

EDUCATION:

  • Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy.

  • Must possess valid New York State Respiratory Therapist (RT) license to practice Respiratory Therapy.

  • Must possess Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.

  • Must possess Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (R.PSG.T.) credential or complete the AASM A-step self study modules within 18 months of hire.

  • BLS/CPR certification required within three months of hire.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Three (3) years of previous respiratory and/or sleep clinical experience preferred, however new graduates with a RT license to practice Respiratory Therapy will be considered.

  • Orientation and training to the essential functions of the position is expected to be completed during the introduction period.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:

  • Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Must possess the ability to assess/interpret patient data and draw appropriate conclusions.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent exposure to infectious diseases/blood and body fluids.

  • Works with a variety of medical gases.

  • May require variable work schedules to maintain a 24/7 operation, including overnight shifts and weekend/holiday work time.

  • Responsible to carry/respond to a mobile device when on duty.

The Physical Therapist designs and implements programs for the patient and family in accordance with agency standards and procedures. The Physical Therapist will also provide teaching to the family and caregivers as appropriate. May perform Early Intervention Program visits as approved and required. REPORTS TO: Director, Home Wellness & Rehabilitation SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None SKILL AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM): Educational Requirements: * Licensed by N.Y. State Department of Education Required * Graduate of B.S. or M.S. degree program in Physical Therapy Required Experience Requirements: * One year supervised experience as a Physical Therapist Knowledge, skills, ability: * Must demonstrate the ability to adapt physical therapy techniques to the home/community setting. * Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language * Must have knowledge of Physical Therapy procedures. * Communication skills which may be inclusive of approach, tone of voice, speed of communication, respectfulness and non verbal communication. * Physical assessment – Application of the assessment into the aging process; examples may include height/weight, skin integrity, ADL's, bowel and bladder control. * Technical skills – incorporates knowledge of age related physical and mental changes in performing technical skills; examples may include appropriate site for IM injection, range of motion and feeding skills. WORKING CONDITIONS: Clinician delivers physical therapy care in home/community setting working with patient, patient's family and any other available caregivers. Significant amount of time traveling, occasional exposure to unclean living environments and temperature fluctuations with seasonal changes.
