Position description
A pediatric and neonatal respiratory therapist provides assessment, treatment, and monitoring of cardiopulmonary disease across the continuum of care. A respiratory therapist functions as part of an interdisciplinary team and department that coordinates and provides continuity of care in a financially responsible manner. A respiratory therapist is able to quickly and accurately assess a patient's condition and communicates effectively to the care team concerning about changes in patient's condition, results of diagnostic studies, symptomatology, and response to treatment. The Pediatric and Neonatal therapist will work closely with the Pediatric and Neonatal ICU and general care areas. This position will transition into a Clinical Specialist position and perform external transport (RW, FW, Ground) upon successfully completing orientation and meeting CAMTS requirements.

Qualifications
The Respiratory Therapist job requires graduation from an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy and basic computer literacy.

Additional qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or healthcare-related field is preferred. 2 years of ICU experience preferred. Additional NBRC NPS specialty credentials preferred upon hire. Good verbal and written communication skills required. Function with initiative and independent judgment; desire for continuous quality improvement.

License or certification
National Board for Respiratory Care Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential and active Minnesota Respiratory Therapist License (LRT) both required before first day of employment and must be maintained throughout duration of employment. National Board for Respiratory Care Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential is required upon hire or by the end of one year of employment and must be maintained throughout duration of employment. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalent determined by site is required. Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) where applicable. Additional life support certifications may be required by site of hire.

Compensation Detail
Education, experience and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The minimum pay rate is $29.66 per hour.

Every third weekend, every third holiday. This will be a day/night position with shifts determined on workgroup needs and seniority.

Location: Baldwin 3, Community Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, Primary Care Rochester Patient Care Type: Pediatric outpatient For new grad nurses: All newly graduated Licensed Practical Nurses with less than 12 months of practice experience, hired into a scheduled FTE Registered Nurse position on the Rochester campus of Mayo Clinic are automatically enrolled in the Nurse Residency Program . A separate application or enrollment process is not required. All nurses new to Mayo Clinic, regardless of experience, will receive an extensive orientation program. The licensed practical nurse (LPN) provides nursing care to assigned patients under the direct supervision of the registered nurse (RN) or other assigned supervisor and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor in meeting the needs of the patient/family. The LPN collects data through observation and communicates information to assist the RN and/or provider in patient assessment and care planning. The LPN participates as a member of the health care team and accepts delegation from the RN/assigned supervisor and provider in meeting needs of the patient/family. The LPN delivers care in accordance with the patient care plan, policies and procedures of the organization and principles of relationship-based care. The LPN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and instructing; and may participate on committees or projects, including quality improvement projects. Qualifications Student or Graduate of a school of practical nursing or passed LPN Boards after a defined period in a professional nursing program (e.g., some states allow RN students to take the LPN board exam after completing one to two years in the RN program). If graduation did not occur within the last two years, one year of LPN experience working in an applicable setting is required.
