Responsible for routine care and maintenance of equipment.

Minimum Job Qualifications

CRTT preferred

High school diploma or GED preferred

Responsible for complete documentation on all records, including: all paperwork associated with oxygen protocol, tank rounds, documenting saturations in medical record, and records of equipment maintenance.

Responsible for departmental equipment supplies and inventory.

  • Properly inventories and keeps stock in designated areas.

  • Inventories tanks and liquid system and replenishes as needed.

  • Performs minor equipment repairs as indicated.

  • Knowledge of work order procedure and submitting purchase orders.

  • Responsible for support to patient care.

  • Understands and institutes oxygen protocol.

  • Follows up on critical care patients who move to floor areas.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Responsible for effective communication to promote quality patient care.

This Surgical Equipment Tech position is PRN hours. Schedule: Evenings, 1:00pm - 9:30pm Location: NGMC Gainesville Operating Room Job Summary: Performs duties related to supporting specified equipment within the Operating Room in collaboration with nursing and Biomed ensuring timely and accurate communication and follow up with all stakeholders. Supports and promotes communication among campuses to streamline processes and facilitate stewardship. Requirements: * High School Diploma * Preferred: 2 years in peri-operative equipment support or graduate of bio-technologist training program. * Minimum experience: 2 years of OR experience required * Job Specific and Unique Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1. Capable of troubleshooting specific surgical equipment as identified by Nurse Manager. 2. Knowledge of surgical procedures, and equipment specific to those procedures as well as equipment specific to surgeons. 3. Self-motivated professional work ethic and attitude. 4. Assists with orientation and training of new employees about specific surgical equipment as identified by the Nurse Manager/Educator. 5. Assists Educator with evaluating new employees on their ability to learn and run equipment safely 6. Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as customer support skills. 7. Knowledgeable in specific OR equipment including beds, attachment and positioning devices. 8. Capable of troubleshooting some surgical equipment as identified by Nurse Manager. 9. Strong analytical ability and interpersonal skills. 10. Knowledgeable in endoscopic equipment. Essential Tasks and Responsibilities 1. Maintains Surgical Services equipment, endoscopic equipment, and furniture in proper working order. 2. Maintains endoscopy tower and equipment 3. Assist with room set up as needed including beds, positioning devices, and all equipment needed for cases. 4. Immediately removes/tags equipment in need of repair or replacement from surgical environment. Places a work order with Biomed for equipment to be repaired or replaced. Communicates with clinical coordinator/manager 5. Evaluates equipment to ensure it is in proper working order before it is returned to service. 6. Maintains clear communication between Clinical Coordinators as well as charge nurse of equipment that is down, out of service or in need of repair for that particular service; ie neuro, ortho, urology, etc. 7. Maintains awareness of safety hazards and proper use of equipment to prevent damage or harm to personnel or patients. 8. Maintains an effective preventive maintenance system with documentation. 9. Properly documents repairs and adjustments through communication with the biomedical engineering department. Initiates all requests through work order documentation. Follows up with biomedical department to ensure timely return of equipment to OR. 10. Follows up with and is in frequent communication with the biomedical department to ensure timely return and/or replacement of equipment to the OR. 11. Provides routine care, ensures cleanliness and maintenance scheduling of equipment 12. Responds appropriately to special assignments and emergency/urgent requests. 13. Briefs supervisor on conditions of equipment and provides necessary follow-up. 14. Provides orientation for all new staff on basic surgical equipment, (beds, frames, bovies, microscopes, etc.) Provides in depth orientation for OR Assistants on specified equipment to prepare for needs during call coverage. 15. Participates in capital budget preparation. Analyzing needs for next fiscal year in collaboration with manager to ensure equipment needs of unit are met. Liaison with vendors to receive information on new or replacement equipment. 16. Initiates documentation for request for Biomed / Plant Ops. Expedites parts acquisition per approval from Bio-Medical Supervisor in a cost effective manner. Works with Bio-med to facilitate proper and timely order and delivery of parts.
