Provides total respiratory care for patients with varying respiratory problems, administering all types of respiratory therapy and properly documenting, and performing EKGs as ordered by the Medical Staff.
The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is also responsible for seeing that all data processing, preventative maintenance, and infection control procedures are performed. Including but not limited to:
O2 Tank checks
Airway box checks
Cleaning, calibration and turnaround of respiratory equipment
Assuring that EKGs are properly reviewed and assigned to the reading physician
The Registered Respiratory Therapist acts as supervisor in the absence of the Senior Respiratory Therapist when assigned.
The Registered Respiratory Therapist must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the unit's / area's / department's policies and procedures.
Education and Training: Must be a graduate of an accredited school of respiratory therapy and be certified by the National Board of Respiratory Care and registry eligible.
Registry must be completed within 6 months of employment. Registered by NBRC is preferred. NC Respiratory Care License required.
Experience: Three months experience providing respiratory care in health care setting and certified in basic CPR, and ACLS are required at the time of hire. NRP and PALS are required within the first 4 months of employment.
Affiliations: Membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care and the North Carolina Society of the American Association for Respiratory Therapy Care preferred.
