PURPOSE OF POSITION: To function as a professional respiratory therapist and to apply in-depth knowledge about the care of infant, children, adolescent and adult patients and clients. To rapidly recognize and anticipate subtle changes based on past experiences; to coordinate and communicate with appropriate resources as needed. To serve as a department and division-based role model and resource for policies, procedures and patient care. To assist others in setting respiratory care and department priorities, keeping in mind the education of self and others while maintaining a cohesive environment.
Sustain a working understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards. Support leadership in Compliance efforts to meet and sustain the regulatory compliance efforts of the department and hospital. Be mindful and judicious in monitoring safety and departmental policies and procedures. Ensure all individual certifications and Safety College requirements are fulfilled in a timely basis. Work with department managers, nurse council and magnet representatives to identify and share safety best practices. Be mindful of CCHMCs processes and compliance with CMS standards and freely communicate safety and compliance concerns to leadership team members.

Consistently integrates age specific and culturally diverse concepts into patient care, taking into consideration both the patient's chronological age and developmental functioning.

Documents and teaches others to document the plan of care and care delivered.. Effectively coordinates the delivery of respiratory care while in the role of Lead. Serve as a point of contact for the ongoing monitoring of workload, work flow and appropriate respiratory care staffing levels.
Proactively contributes to the interdisciplinary team in team meetings and discussions regarding patient care and/or practice issues. Coaches others to respect the contributions of the entire team. Assists others to work collaboratively valuing the contributions of the various disciplines in patient/practice issues.Is an active member on point-of-care or divisional councils, committees, task forces or projects by contributing to decision making. Supports divisional leadership initiatives Acts as a chair of divisional or point of care councils, committees or task forces. Recognizes lateral violence and bullying among respiratory therapists or between healthcare professionals is inappropriate in the workplace and will not contribute to its presence and will work to prevent it in the workplace

Graduate of a CoARC approved respiratory care program
Registry credentials by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
Other state licenses may be required for specific positions
Possess certification in the following at the end of the first year of employment:
RT's whose primary work unit is NICU are required to be certified in NRP and PALS. All other RT's are required to be certified in PALS and ACLS
Must be a Graduate of a CoARC approved Respiratory Care Program
Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist by the NBRC and licensed by the State of Ohio
Must be minimum RT II
Must have 5 years of CCHMC experience or related PFT experience
Must maintain active membership in the American Association for Respiratory Care
CPFT or RPFT credential (must obtain credential within first year)
Bachelors Degree in a health care related field
