Under the direction of the Patient Services Office Supervisor, assists in providing overall coordination of staff scheduling within the Patient Care Operations division (in cooperation with Directors) through the preparation of unit schedules and staffing reports. Maintains a computerized patient classification system which provides a basis for staffing recommendation and scheduling.


Operates the automated staffing and scheduling system, maintains database and system integrity. Maintains daily automated staffing designation and deployment, identifying persons on duty and their specific floor assignments, according to patient care needs per unit.

Coordinates staffing and determines resource allocation for designated patient care areas. Assists Supervisor, Directors, and Patient Care Coordinators (PCC) by recommending, adjusting and scheduling staff patterns to meet mission requirements of the Patient Care Operations division. Maintains record of patient acuity adjustments, relative to patient/unit.

Monitors quality of data. Maintains records of (1) orientation; (2) overtime; (3) double-time; (4) call logs; (5) patient acuity adjustments, and absence and tardiness for Patient Care Operations departments as directed. Contacts personnel (in cooperation with unit leadership teams and/or PCCs) to work in case of call-ins, due to illness or other valid reasons.

Communicates on an ongoing basis with the Occupational Health & Wellness Coordinator regarding any absenteeism anticipated to extend beyond five days (disability or LOAs). Develops and maintains constructive working relationships with management personnel and staff members to promote cooperation, employee satisfaction, and customer service. Finalizes staffing each shift with the Director/PCC. Processes Kronos corrections to the employee timecard.

Obtain medical records, traveling to offsite records when necessary in order to retrieve archived patient charts. Other projects as assigned by the Associate Vice President of Patient Care Operations, Resource Manager or Resource Director. Other duties as assigned.


High School graduate required. Secretarial training or 1 year of office experience required; 3 years preferred.

Required completion of MS Word, Excel, and database experience as evidenced by CVPH test requirements, certification or transcript; OR completion of CVPH Excel Course within 2 weeks of hire with assessment completed by instructor, designating candidate as proficient in excel program. Failure to pass the requirement will result in loss of position. Prior scheduling experience required.

Positive interpersonal communication skills; written and oral required. Initiative to complete assigned tasks with minimal direction required. Ability to organize and manage complex scheduling needs required.

Regular full-time and regular part-time employees must be able to advance to Level II within 6 months post-orientation to the position. Per diem employees will remain as Level I.

As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.

Must assist in all aspects of the Radiology Department operation. Special Criteria Details On call as scheduled Responsibilities Performs Nuclear Med exams according to established protocols Carefully screens patients prior to examination, to assure that there is no unknown existing condition(s) that would be contraindicate performing the procedure. Screens all females of child bearing age regarding the possibility of pregnancy and reports any questionable or positive responses to the Radiologist, Supervisor or referring physician for guidance prior to beginning the examination; documents this on the request. Reviews the Nuclear Med Request and Physicians Order for the existence of pertinent clinical information and special instructions before performing the examination; obtains clinical information where necessary, Is responsible for completing the patient assessment and technologist note section on the Nuclear Med Request and signing their name. Explains procedures to patients/ families, providing appropriate emotional support. Remains alert to patient's physical condition, recognizes signs of distress and initiates prescribed emergency procedures. Calculates and prepares the appropriate dosage of radionuclide materials. Utilizes appropriate safety / radiation protection methods when preparing / administering radionuclide materials. Administers prescribed dosages of appropriate radiopharmaceuticals; performs venipuncture and lock insertion for designated examinations and injects radiopharmaceuticals; prepares and administers oral radiopharmaceuticals. Maintains equipment and work areas in clean, safe, orderly manner. Reports any malfunctions to a Supervisor. Performs quality control on all equipment, performs daily survey, etc. and maintains related records. Follows safety procedures and assists in maintaining appropriate records for hospital and regulatory agencies. Assists in the training and clinical supervision of student technologists. Assists in the ordering, assessing and storing all supplies. Responsible for ordering, discarding, storage, etc. of all radionuclide materials. Assures that all exams are QA'd, tracked and labeled correctly. Practices Infection Control according to hospital policy Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Must be licensed by the New York State Department of Health as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. Must be registered by the ARRT (Nuclear Medicine) or the NMTCB (Nuclear Medicine). Must have three years Nuclear Medicine experience in a hospital setting, excluding training time. Requires sufficient sensitivity and interpersonal skills in dealing with apprehensive patients and families in a professional and compassionate manner. Requires positive and effective communicating skills for interaction with physicians and staff in any situation. Requires an ability to think and act quickly in order to deliver efficient quality care in a variety of stressful situations. Must be BLS certified (or obtained within 3 months).
