This internship will support and assist with various projects as assigned within the Companys Resource Planning Department. These projects will be assigned consistent with the Companys Internship Program with an emphasis on developing an understanding of the Companys multiple business units and enhancing the interns ability to apply his/her education in a business environment.

INTERNSHIP PROGRAM:

The Summer Internship Program at Black Hills Energy is far from ordinary. You will tackle a real-world project and present it to members of our Executive Team. These projects are designed to enhance your communication and teamwork skills, as you will be collaborating with individuals across all functions within our organization. You will also work alongside professionals in your field, gaining in-depth knowledge about the energy industry and your chosen field of expertise.

At the end of your internship, all of our Summer Interns are invited to our corporate headquarters in Rapid City, South Dakota for an entire week (all expenses paid)! You will tour our different facilities, hear from professionals around the company, and present your final project. This trip helps tie together all you have learned. We hope you finish out our program with an understanding of what it takes to turn the lights on, and to keep them on for our customers across eight states.

LOCATION: Rapid City, SD

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Resource Planning Senior Analyst

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

    *
  • Assist in compilation of data for resource planning projects.
  • *
  • Assist in the use of analytical tools, such as statistical and resource planning software, to create value and customer service.
  • *
  • Track historic load trends and compare to load forecasts to determine load forecasts in the future are accurate.
  • *
  • Analyze data related to core resource planning functions
  • *
  • Assist the Regulatory Department with its responses to data requests/interrogatories

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    *
  • Keep supervisor informed of project work status.
  • *
  • Assist in preparation of documentation for Federal reporting requirements such as North American Electric Reliability Corporation.

  • Research and communicate the proper interpretation of rates, rules, and terms and conditions of potential resource alternatives, including renewable resources, as needed to run resource plan models.

  • Add knowledge and value to the team through collaboration and idea generation

  • Translate analytical findings into clear insights
  • *
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to identify opportunities for improvement to existing processes
  • *
  • Gain familiarity with Companys resource planning process.

EDUCATION:

  • College sophomore or above working toward Bachelors degree in a relevant field, such as Engineering, Business, Accounting or Finance, Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or equivalent experience.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Economic principles utilizing statistics and analytics are preferred.

  • General accounting, finance, business and/or process improvement knowledge is a plus
