Resource ESL Teacher
The position provides instruction within the guidelines established by the Organization and specific departments within this group. Work hours are on an as needed basis without commitment to a minimum. The purpose is to serve within an "on call" basis for coverage of regular staff and temporary shortages. A resource pool worker may work on average 10 hours per week. Individual accountabilities and work volume will be established through the development of annual Success Objectives, within the framework outlined below.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides instruction: Follows the curriculum and class plan of the regular teacher or as provided by the supervisor or manager. Teach students from newly arrived refugees with very basic or no prior English through immigrants needing to practice for work or citizenship.
Keeps attendance at each session and may record individual and group progress as dictated by contract compliance and professional standards.
As schedules allow, may perform level testing of new students or students ready to move up a level; may assist in administration in any down time between classes on a given day.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree required. Experience with teaching or tutoring preferred. Must be sufficiently flexible in background and demeanor to pick up a class in progress and adjust to diverse populations and skill levels.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: ESL training required (certification preferred).
Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated competency in public speaking and strong interpersonal skills required.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Outlook/Exchange; Windows operating systems; and other software routinely used by Heartland Alliance.
