Job Description

MITRE leverages deep technical knowledge, engineering expertise, and prototyping capabilities to develop, evaluate, and test creative and practical solutions that facilitate tech transition and inform acquisition. In our electronic systems and engineering role we innovative and practical solutions in the areas of sensing, communications, processing, and more, and works across MITRE to define and deliver technical products to meet critical mission challenges.

As an Intern working in electrical or computer engineering, you will work with a team to apply your knowledge and gain experience with one or more of the following:

  • Antennas/electromagnetics, sensors/radar, photonics, and signal processing

  • Communications, SIGINT, spectrum, and position, navigation, and timing (PNT)

  • Electronics and embedded security

  • Rapid electronic and hardware prototyping, advanced manufacturing, design, mechanical and reliability analysis

  • Network architecture and engineering, Software Defined Networking (SDN), cloud solution system engineering or other infrastructure virtualization techniques

  • Satellite communications

  • Maritime System Development, acoustic & ocean modeling, SONAR system analysis, and transducer design

  • Electronic warfare

  • You will leverage an understanding of wireless communications, networking, digital signal processing (DSP), modeling & simulation, or other similar technical disciplines

  • You will apply "hands-on" skills such as utilizing RF laboratory test equipment, software defined radios (SDR), and/or software skills such as MATLAB, C++, Python, SQL, Systems Tool Kit (STK) or similar modeling tools

  • You will support various projects depending on your skills, development goals, and sponsor needs to provide the United States military and international partners the tools and capabilities they need for success

  • Previous internship experiences have included tactical waveform characterization and assessments, radio interoperability studies, propagation channel modeling, and prototyping

Required Qualifications

  • Must be a student enrolled full-time pursuing an accredited degree seeking program in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related degree program and continue to be enrolled full-time the semester following the internship.

  • Knowledge of electrical engineering theory and one or more of the following: digital signal processing, wireless communications, computer architecture, embedded software, embedded security, cryptography, analog design, RF/EM, sensors and antennas, photonics, power systems, and software architecture and design

  • Sustained excellence in academic performance

  • High level desire to help their nation solve its most critical challenges

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience applying electrical engineering theory and previous work or research in one or more of the following: digital signal processing, wireless communications, computer architecture, embedded software, embedded security, cryptography, analog design, RF/EM, sensors and antennas, photonics, power systems, and software architecture and design
  • "Hands-on" skills in at least one or more programming language
